Fundraiser planned Nov. 14 in Adel for Dylan Book
November 14, 2009

By Paul Rohrer
ADEL, Iowa – A community fundraiser will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 to benefit the family of IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock driver Dylan Book.
Book, 17, of Adel, was injured while servicing a tire on Oct. 20. He suffered severe injuries and is expected to have a long road to recovery to repair broken bones in his face, arm and trauma to his eyes.
The community of Adel and the racing community have come together to host the fundraiser to help pay medical expenses as Dylan races toward recovery. The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Dallas County Fairgrounds, located at 28057 Fairground Road on the north side of Adel on Highway 169.
A suggested minimum donation of $10 includes a main dish of roasted pork, sides and beverages (including adult beverages).  Food will be served beginning at 7 p.m. A silent auction will be held from 7-9 p.m., with a live auction starting at 9 p.m. courtesy of Daugherty Auction Services of Adel.
Items up for auction include various automotive services and accessories, various sporting memorabilia including NASCAR, NFL and NCAA sports, tickets to NASCAR races, tickets to NCAA basketball games, miscellaneous services, gift certificates to establishments throughout the community, and more.
A complete list of auction items is posted at  http://docs.google.com/View?id=ddgczfnh_0psmvb4vw.
There will also be live music featuring Pocket Full of Nickels, Curse of Hail, Alchemist and Havick.
In just a few short weeks Dylan has made tremendous progress, and continues to stay strong and maintain a positive attitude.  His family has been by his side the entire time throughout his recovery process, and his CaringBridge website has had over 20,000 visits from family, friends and people interested in Dylan’s story who are offering their support to Dylan and the Book family.
Dylan has received incredible care at Mercy Medical Center of Des Moines, where he has been since the accident occurred.  The trauma team, craniofacial and orthopaedic surgery teams, the Medical ICU (and eICU) staff and the nursing staff on 8-North Med/Surg have all provided excellent care to help Dylan bounce back. The level of customer service all of these groups have provided has helped in a remarkable way to relieve the stress of the whole ordeal on the family.
This year Dylan started racing in the sanctioned Hobby Stock division and earned both national and Jet Racing Northern Region rookie of the year honors.
While traveling to tracks in Iowa, Missouri and Kansas, he won feature races this season at Boone Speedway and at Stuart Speedway.
Information on Dylan’s progress is posted at www.caringbridge.org/visit/dylanbook.  Updates are posted daily by the family and many supporters have stopped by to offer encouraging remarks to Dylan and family.
Anyone unable to attend the fundraiser can make donations at www.supportdylan.com. The “For Dylan: Anything is Possible” T-shirt is available for a suggested minimum donation of $10.
Donations can also be made at any Wells Fargo Bank payable to “Dylan Book Fundraiser.”
