ALGONA, Iowa (July 9) – Austin Hauswirth has come close before this summer but always fell just a little short. That all changed Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway as Hauswirth won the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature.
It was not easy for Hauswirth as three cautions and the hard charging Shannon Anderson made things interesting. Hauswirth and Anderson went door-to-door for the final five laps but Hauswirth held on for the win.
Anderson took second with Chanse Hollatz third.
Jesse Hoeft grabbed the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified lead early. Only a single yellow flag delayed his trip to winner’s circle although second place Jeremy Mills made a run in the final few laps. Point leader Tad Reutzel was third.
Randy Brands grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature, built a sizable advantage despite four early caution flags and held off 10th starting Derek Green for the checkers.
Green weaved his way through the field down the stretch. The front two battled the final six laps with each driver taking the lead only to have the other one wrestle it away before Brands held the lead at the flag stand on the final lap.
Green was a very close second with Dan Hanselman third.
Nick Meyer scored another Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory while Nate Coopman got back on track in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.
