ALGONA, Iowa (July 25) – Tim Ward was the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner at Saturday’s Gary Harken Memorial, when Kossuth County Speedway honored a long-time track employee who passed away earlier this year.

One of the highlights of the evening came as Harken’s grandson Alex Christensen of Nevada, Mo., displayed the American flag around the track during the national anthem and led the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for their parade lap.

Ward held off Tad Reutzel, Mike Jergens and Jesse Hoeft for his third local win of the summer. Hoeft used a late-race pass of Reutzel to place second with Reutzel third.

Kevin Opheim rocketed from 10th starting to the front spot just five laps into the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature and he held onto the lead the rest of the way. Calvin Lange and Andy Altenburg rounded out the top three.

Nick Meyer started on the outside of the front row and won his fourth Northern SportMod feature of the season at Algona while Cody Knecht started on the pole and placed second. Shane Swanson took third.

The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature saw brothers Cody and Brandon Nielsen take the top two spots. Cody earned his first feature victory of the season at Algona, taking advantage of his pole start with only a yellow flag on lap two slowing his journey to the winner’s circle.

Brother Brandon finished second while Mike Schadendorf ended in third.

Winner of the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature was Lucas Parsons.
