Simmons is Virginia Sprint winner at Dixieland

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Part-time pilot Carl Simmons raced like a pro in winning Friday’s Virginia Sprint Series feature at Dixieland Speedway.

The IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour checkers were Simmons’ first in two years and came ahead of Tom Humphries and Jerald Harris.

Simmons and Charlie Ware brought the field to green with Simmons wasting no time moving to the cushion. Ware had to hold off the field, which had lined up behind him on the fast, short oval.

As the laps clicked off, Harris and Humphries made their way to the front and were working on Simmons.

With two to go, Harris was running out of fuel in the corners and Humphries went by on the high side. It was too late to go after Simmons however as he flew under the checkered flag first.

Feature results – 1. Carl Simmons; 2. Tom Humphries; 3. Jerald Harris; 4. Troy Severin; 5. Kevin Fletcher; 6. Anthony Linkenhoker; 7. Charlie Ware; 8. J.D. Coats; 9. Cassandra Davis; 10. Brian Lawson; 11. Daren Bolac; 12. Tony Harris; 13. Glenn Worrell; 14. French Grimes; 15. Chad Worrell.
