Next Drive For Five qualifier is Friday at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 23) – After having a week off for the fair and another week off thanks to mother nature, Lee County Speedway was able to get back to racing action on Friday. Conn Communications provided all fans going into the grandstands a chance to take in the night’s racing action for only $3, with many fans taking advantage of the discounted prices.  At the end of the night the great crowd on hand got to witness three drivers earn their first win of the season at the track, while two others continued their winning ways. Up first on the night was the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature, with Justin Stevenson and Patrick McKasson leading the field to green. Fourth place starter Kaycee McGregor grabbed the lead over Stevenson and Luke Fraise. By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that took all of April’s and most of May’s scheduled race events at Pepsi Lee County Speedway, promoters Brian and Marcie Gaylord have announced several schedule changes to the Drive For 5 program for IMCA Sunoco Late Models. There will still be five $1,000 to win feature qualifying nights to help set the stage for a potential $5,000 IMCA Sunoco Late Model Drive For 5 payday in mid September at the track. Four of the qualifying nights will take place on weekly Friday night events, on June 12, June 26, July 17 and Aug. 21, with one qualifying night on Saturday, Aug. 1. Drivers who compete in at least four of those events will be eligible to run for a top prize of $5,000 in the Saturday, Sept. 12 finale.  Shottenkirk Parts Express, local sponsor of the division, is the title sponsor of Drive For 5 as well. By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 19) – Mike Mullen made the long tow from Wisconsin pay off by winning Friday’s IMCA Modified main event at Lee County Speedway.  Chad Giberson and Dakota Simmons led the field to green in the 20-lap Budweiser IMCA Modified feature, with Simmons grabbing the initial lead on John Oliver Jr. and Dennis LaVeine. Oliver used the momentum off the top to grab the top spot on lap five. Mullen made it a three-car battle for the lead then on lap eight passed Oliver Jr. to take away the top spot. The one and only caution of the race appeared on the next lap. On the restart, Mullen jumped back out front with Michael Long and Oliver close behind. Long tried to keep pace over the final half of the race but Mullen was able to hold on to score his first-ever win at Donnellson.  Abe Huls was the Donnellson Tire & Service IMCA Stock Car winner and Daniel Fellows prevailed from a three-wide tussle with the lead and the victory [Read More]
