Paris towers over Maquoketa foes

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 29, 2024) – Maquoketa Speedway returned to weekly racing action following a rain out the previous week. A whopping 145 race teams took part in the action-packed Saturday night of racing.  The IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature was one of several main events that ran flag to flag. Dave Wadsager led lap number one before Steve Johnson took over the top spot. Travis Denning started eighth and quickly worked to the front, taking the lead from Johnson before 10 laps were completed. Denning went on to build a comfortable lead while the second spot was up for grabs. Matt Ryan held off a fast-closing Evan Miller at the checkers with Johnson rounding out the top four.  The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds also ran their race clean and green as the 20-lap main saw Jeff Larson add another win to his 2024 resume. Last year’s show was very well attended with a good sized group of race cars on display. The 2024 show promises to be even bigger and offers a lot more to race enthusiasts.  Doors to the Muscatine Mall will open to the public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16. Terry Dulin raced through the GRE / REV Chassis IMCA Stock Car field Saturday evening at Maquo­keta Speedway and picked up his second consecutive 15-lap victory. “The track is fast and this car really stuck,” Dulin said in Hoker Trucking/C&W Trucking /Kam Wraps Victory Lane. “We knew Dustin (Vis) would be coming and we’re sorry he broke, but it’s always fun to race here and especially win.” Vis sped from the tail to second, but pulled to the infield with issues late in the race. Dulin took the lead from Jimmy Comins on lap six as the top six all were within a few car lengths.
