$2,000 to win Stock Car Shootout slated at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 3) – It was a memorable night for McCain Jennings as the Algona driver picked up IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career feature win number one on June 3 to highlight an exciting night of dirt track racing at the Kossuth County Speedway. Jennings started on the outside of the third row before working his way to the front and holding off a challenge of three much accomplished drivers in Derek Green, Donovan Smith and Kelly Shryock to win the main event. Kevin Opheim was the early leader in the feature as the yellow flag came out on the second lap. Loren Pesicka became the new leader after the restart and held that spot until Jennings took over the lead on lap number four and refused to give it up for career win number one. By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 12) – Denny Berghahn Jr. made a long trip from Nebraska $1,000 better as he topped a 19-car field to win the second annual Bumblebee Nationals at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, night. National point leader Bubba Brown and Stephanie Coopman led the field to green for the 25-lap feature with Berghahn, who started on the outside of the second row, taking the lead immediately. From that point, all that slowed Berghahn in the drive for the best payday of his career were a quintet of cautins. Hard charger Jerry Coopman advanced nine spots to end in second with Jake Benischek, Stephanie Coopman and Jarad Gross rounding out the to five. Tad Reutzel and Bryce Sommerfield picked up their third local feature wins of the season in the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock divisions, respectively, with Derek Green taking the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature for the second straight week and Doug Cook topping the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for the first time.

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, (Iowa (Aug. 3) – Another big event at Kossuth County Speedway brought out the best in Nick Meyer Saturday night. The IMCA Modified winner at last month’s Salute to Veterans special, Meyer returned to victory lane in the Harken Memorial, held on the second night of racing during the county fair. Jeremy Mills and Ben Kraus brought the field to the flag stand for what would prove a caution-free con­test. Mills grabbed the early lead but Meyer took over the top spot on the third lap and cruised to the fea­ture win. Mills placed second followed by Austin Wolf, Rob Hughes and Cody Knecht.
