Racing resumes this Sunday at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (May 30) – Troy Cordes made a little history Sunday night at the Benton County Speedway Bullring.  Not only did he score his third straight win and fourth in five weeks in the KISS Country 96.5 IMCA Modifieds, he became just the third driver in track history to earn 60 wins on the quarter-mile.  From a fifth row start, Cordes worked the high groove to perfection and found himself in contention at the midway point. He made his way around leader Ryan Maitland and set sail on the way to his career first three-race winning streak at the Bullring. Seventeenth starting Chris Zogg made a terrific run through the field and made a bid for the lead following a late caution, but ran second at the finish. VINTON, Iowa (May 7, 2023) – Already saturated grounds and a stormy Sunday forecast have forced officials at Benton County Speedway to postpone the season-opening Spring Thunder special a second time. The event was originally scheduled for April 30 and again on May 7, but both were pushed back due to weather. The new date to get the season started is next Sunday, May 14, which was originally scheduled as a night off for Mother’s Day. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds will race for $1,250-to-win and qualifying eligibility for this year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. A $1,000 prize will be awarded to the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod winner. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars will compete for a $500 winner’s share, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks $400 to win and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts $250. VINTON, Iowa (May 28, 2023) – It took him a few laps to get to the lead, but once he did it was smooth sailing for Friesen Performance IMCA Modified driver Tim Ward. Ward worked past Justin O’Brien mid-way through the Beaty Excavating 25-lapper, then took the checkers by six seconds ahead of the field in Sunday’s Prelude to Monday’s IMCA Modified Anniversary Event. O’Brien led early while Drew Janssen pressured the leader running the low side of the fast quarter-mile oval. Meanwhile, Ward navigated the high side and pestered the lead pair before making what would be the winning pass.
