Flippo dominates at Britt, Smith gets 99th win

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 2, 2024) – Three different drivers were in the second position at different times of Friday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Hancock County Speedway.

Jerry Flippo, however, proved to be the one who could move up a spot.

Flippo, who has suffered through a summer of bad luck, finished the race more than a half track ahead of eventual runner-up Cody Knecht. Knecht charged from sixth to finish ahead of Clint Hatlestad and Jeremy Mills. 

In the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Troy Swearingen made the last lap count as he made a huge move to the bottom of turns one and two to sweep up in front of long-time leader Parker Slagle. It was Swearingen’s second win at the Britt track. Kevin Opheim finished third ahead of Heath Tulp. 

Dustin West was fast in the Friese Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, leading the most laps, but several yellows and a late-race red flag proved his undoing as Alec Fett sailed around the outside of turn four in the waning stages of the event.

Fett was the winner over West, Nate Chodur and Doug McCollough. 

Mike Smith came into the night seeking his 99th career IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature win. After missing his heat race, he was forced to start 13th on the initial grid. He mounted a big charge to the front and passed Brandon Nielsen with two laps for the win. Chris Krug and Steve Wickman finished behind second place Nielsen. 

The annual Night of 1000 Stars will conclude IMCA Speedweek next week at the Hancock County Speedway, with racing Friday and Saturday night at the 4/10-mile dirt oval.

Hancock County’s Hobo 100 has $4,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car top prize 

BRITT, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars get top billing at Hancock County Speedway’s Friday, July 27 Hobo 100, racing for a top prize of $4,000. Rounding out the card are IMCA Modifieds vying for $2,000 to win and a berth on the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, while Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run for $1,000 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $200 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Iowa State, but no local track points will be awarded at the draw/redraw show. MaxYield Seed IMCA Northern SportMod Nationals set to invade Hancock County Speedway

WEST BEND, Iowa – The IMCA Northern SportMod Nationals will return to Hancock County Speed­way in Britt for the 2019 season. MaxYield Seed is once again the title sponsor of the event, which will be held on Tuesday, June 18 in partnership with DeKalb/Asgrow, LG Seeds, Latham Hi-Tech Seeds, and Croplan by Winfield. The winner of this year’s 30-lap feature for Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will take home $2,500 guaranteed. Second place will earn $1,200, third place will pay $1,000, fourth place will pay $750, fifth place is worth $700, and 10th place earns $500. The event will pay $300 to start. Logue finds answers, $2,500 feature win at Hancock County’s SportMod Nationals

BRITT, Iowa (June 25) – One win in his first 19 starts of the season had Johnathon Logue looking for answers.  He found them Tuesday night at Hancock County Speedway’s MaxYield Seed SportMod Nationals.  Logue won his heat, the dash and the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main event, earning $2,700 in all for his efforts. “My car was very, very good,” said Logue, whose one previous victory this year had also been at Britt, on June 7. “It seems like we’ve been on the trouble bus with it all season. To be able to run as well as we did made it a fun night.” Brayton Carter, Jared Boumeester, Jake McBirnie and Jim Chisholm completed the top five across the stripe in the $2,500 to win feature.
