Maquoketa Speedway host Kids’ Night as 122 teams pack pits

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 3, 2024) – Kinion Auto Sales hosted Kids Night at the races with an outstanding field of 122 race teams in attendance at Maquoketa Speedway on Saturday night. 

The IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature took the green with rookie Carter Johnson setting the pace early. Johnson was overtaken by another young driver in Chase Brunscheen before the 93 of Brunscheen slipped off the top side of turn, four allowing Bryce Garnhart to take the lead.

Garnhart went on to set sail on the lip of the track holding off the constant challenges of 10th starting Travis Denning. Garnhart held his line and held on for a hard-fought win a car length ahead of Denning with Evan Miller finishing a very close third. 

The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds saw pole sitter Timmy Current lead for better than half of the main until eighth starting Jeff Larson was able to move out front using the extreme high side of the track. 

Current ran the low line and was able to hold for second ahead of Charlie Mohr at the checkers. 

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars saw a first-time visitor make his way to victory lane on Saturday night.

Miciah Hidlebaugh has raced Maquoketa off and on but yet to score a win. That all changed on Saturday night as Hidlebaugh wheeled his 72H to the win holding off 17th starting Kodey Miles.

Gage Neal raced his way to third after being involved in an early race incident that had Neal restarting from the tail of the field. 

The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods had another strong field of competitors sign in for Saturday night’s race program.

Jarrett Franzen steadily worked to the front from a fifth row start and went on to record the win. Franzen raced under the checkers just ahead of Austin Stamm and Jared Staver. 

Jordan Miles continued his hot streak by scoring another win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Miles is in the running for the Junior National Championship as well as a top five finish in the national IMCA point standings.

He worked to the front from a 10th position start and held off Daniel Wauters at the checkers. 

Saturday, Aug. 10 will be Oly’s Garage of Preston Fan Appreciation Night at Maquoketa Speedway with $5 adult admission. Hot laps take to the quarter-mile at 6 p.m.

Dulin scores second straight Stock Car win at Maquoketa

Terry Dulin raced through the GRE / REV Chassis IMCA Stock Car field Saturday evening at Maquo­keta Speedway and picked up his second consecutive 15-lap victory. “The track is fast and this car really stuck,” Dulin said in Hoker Trucking/C&W Trucking /Kam Wraps Victory Lane. “We knew Dustin (Vis) would be coming and we’re sorry he broke, but it’s always fun to race here and especially win.” Vis sped from the tail to second, but pulled to the infield with issues late in the race. Denning scores Fan Appreciation Night win at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 10, 2024) – The Maquoketa Speedway hosted Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday sponsored by our friends at Oly’s Garage in Preston and the Hayes Family Farms of Monmouth and 124 race teams packed the pit area for another action-packed night of racing on the ¼-mile dirt oval located on the Jackson County Fairgrounds.  The IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature took the green with Michael Leal pacing the field early from his pole position start. Kelly Pestka applied pressure early while Travis Denning was steadily advancing to the front, working the extreme high line around the smooth track. Denning was able to take the lead as the feature closed in on the 10 to go mark. Denning went on to record the win from his ninth position start. Maquoketa Speedway host car show and swap meet, awards ceremony 

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Jan. 25, 2024) – On Saturday, Feb. 3, Maquoketa Speedway will host the second annual pre-season race car show and racers’ swap meet The event will be held on the Jackson County Fairgrounds located on the east side of Maquoketa. Doors will open to the public at 9 a.m. and several of the drivers who will be competing regularly at Maquoketa Speedway in 2024 will have their race-ready cars on display. A racers’ swap meet will also be held, offering drivers and race teams the opportunity to buy and sell items needed to field a competitive race car.  The show will conclude at 3 p.m., at which time the awards ceremony will get underway honoring the champions and the top drivers in 2023 track points earned at the Maquoketa Speedway.  Fans are encouraged to come out and spend the afternoon with the drivers of the Maquoketa Speedway.  2024 race schedules will be available along with information regarding the numerous specials that will highlight the upcoming season at Maquoketa Speedway. Concessions and beverages [Read More]
