MINOT, N.D. (Aug. 11, 2024) – Considering how close their battle for the track championship was, it was no surprise when Brennor Grinstead and Kyler Satran were separated by just seven thousandths of a second apart at the finish of Sunday’s IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature at Nodak Speedway.

The Grinstead brothers, Brennor and Tyson, engaged in a fierce battle at the start, Brennor emerging as the leader to pace the first lap.

Satran threw his hat in the ring when he took over second on the fourth circuit and the next time around was pressuring Brennor Grinstead for the top spot. Finding an advantage on the inside line, Satran powered his way ahead to become the new trailblazer on lap six.

Things slowed down twice with two late-race cautions, including the last one setting up a green, white, checkered finish.

When the green flag was presented to the field for the final time, Brennor Grinstead tried to get around Satran via the outside and reclaim first place. Grinstead had a slight advantage when the white flag was unfurled but had to stay ahead of his opponent for one more lap.

The two engaged in a nail-biting battle on that final circuit. Grinstead managed to hold on by a mere 0.007 seconds, with Satran and Connor Hanson next across the stripe.

The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods had a dynamite of a main event of their own.

The House of Mayer went after it when Stan and Dustyn, starting on the front row, fought for the race lead on the initial start. Dustyn Mayer would obtain the position at the completion of the opening before the only caution came out.

On the restart, Darren Medler motored around Stan Mayer for second and then beat Daryn to the line to pace the field for the second circuit. The two front runners would battle it out as they were nearly door to door the rest of the way.

Daryn Mayer reclaimed the top spot on lap 10. Medler, did not go away, as he took control back with a dozen circuits completed. It was around this time that Gabe Deschamp had moved into third and was closing in on both parties. He brought along with him fourth-running Ed Conlin.

Mayer again used the inside lane to edge out Medler, the 15th time around, but Medler kept his composure on the top side of the racing surface and retrieved first place two laps later.

With only a couple of trips around the flag stand remaining, some lapped traffic came into the picture.

Mayer got held up for just a moment, allowing for Deschamp to capture second coming to the white flag. Deschamp tried to mount a formal challenge for the lead on the last lap but Medler held on.

Deschamp and Dustyn Mayer completed the podium in second and third, respectively.

The event was broadcasted by IMCA.TV affiliate DARN TV.
