Cogburn Battles to Victory Before Capacity Crowd at Kennedale

KENNEDALE, Texas (Mar. 15, 2025) — 19-year-old Trevor Cogburn capped off the Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMod main event with a statement victory in front of one of the largest crowds in Kennedale Speedway Park history. The Robinson teenager faced multiple challenges but held firm against all contenders.

The feature saw an intense battle between Cogburn and Tyler Russell, with the two drivers trading positions in a side-by-side duel. Russell eventually gained the advantage, but Cogburn, the 2022 National Southern SportMod Rookie of the Year, fought back and reclaimed the lead on lap 6. Just as their battle reached its peak, a caution reset the field.

On the restart, Cogburn pulled away, but four-time and defending KSP SportMod champion and three-time defending Texas State title winner Jerrett Bransom moved past Russell into second. Bransom quickly closed in on Cogburn, setting the stage for a showdown. However, another caution interrupted the action before that battle could unfold.

Despite multiple stoppages, including a tense green-white-checkered finish, Cogburn remained composed and fended off Bransom to secure his first win of 2025. Bransom settled for second, while Matt Lunsford rounded out the podium in third.

Wilkins, Leasure both pick right night for IMCA feature wins at Kennedale

KENNEDALE, Texas (May 15) – Kyle Wilkins picked the right night to get his first feature win of the season while Sean Leasure picked a good night to get his fifth.  Wilkins earned $1,000 for his Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod feature win while Leasure, a high school sophomore, pocketed $800 for his latest Mach-1 Sport Compact checkers Saturday at Kennedale Speedway Park. While both drivers led start to finish, Wilkins saw his 20-lapper end green, white checkered. Kirby is convincing in IMCA All Star win at Kennedale

KENNEDALE, Texas (May 27, 2023) – Brenda Kirby wasn’t sure who was starting where behind her, but she made sure everyone finished behind her in Saturday night’s All Star Shootout Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event. The Arizona visitor started on the pole for the headline feature at Kennedale Speedway Park and chased Californian Troy Morris III the first 10 times around the track before taking the front spot for good. Kennedale Speedway Park remembers Kirk Martin at 16th annual Showdown

KENNEDALE, Texas (Sept. 26, 2022) – Kennedale Speedway Park remembers a fixture in the Texas racing scene during the 16th annual Summit Racing Equipment Showdown Sept. 29-Oct. 1. The weekend Kirk Martin Memorial program sees Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds racing for $3,069 to win, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $2,069 to win and Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMods for $1,569 to win.  The Modified feature is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifier with $1,500 paid for second and $1,000 for third. Minimum start money is $300. The Stock Car feature is a B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational qualifier and pays $1,069 for second and a minimum of $200 to start. The SportMod runner-up earns $1,000 with a minimum of $200 paid to start that race as well. Entry fee, if paid by Sept. 28, is $80 for Modifieds, $60 for Stock Cars and $50 for the Southern SportMods.
