ELM MOTT, Texas (Mar. 7, 2025) — Kyle Wilkins dominated the Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMods feature at Heart O’ Texas Speedway, securing the victory on the opening night of the Jack Bagby Memorial. The race was highly competitive with lots of jockeying of position throughout the field.

Jeff Bauser Jr. initially took the lead following a battle for the top spot. Wilkins, from the town of Italy quickly began applying pressure but struggled to find a clear path. On lap 3, the automobilista threaded the needle to take the lead, but a red flag for a flipped car negated the pass, restoring Bauser to the top spot.

When racing resumed, Wilkins was relentless. He finally powered past Bauser on lap 9 after a drag race to the line. Despite four more cautions and a gradually deflating left front tire, Wilkins held strong to capture his first win of 2025.

The battle for second was tightly contested in the final laps, with 2022 National Southern SportMod Rookie of the Year Trevor Cogburn edging out Tommy Williams for the spot.

Lorenz Controls Stock Car Feature for Win

Doug Lorenz dominated the Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars feature at Heart O’ Texas Speedway, overcoming early challenges to take a commanding win in the EQ Cylinder Heads Southern Region bout.

Koby Allen and Lorenz initially battled for the lead, with Allen briefly taking control. However, Lorenz surged ahead on lap 2 and never looked back. Allen’s hopes took a hit when he clipped the front stretch wall, allowing Lorenz to extend his advantage.

After an early caution, Lorenz was flawless on the restart, quickly building a sizable lead. Three-time Southern Region champion Westin Abbey worked his way into second and closed in during the final laps, but Lorenz’s lead was insurmountable. He sealed the victory, with Abbey finishing second and Cody Baker rounding out the podium.

Abbey hoists Harcrow hardware at HO’T

WACO, Texas (July 2, 2022) – What turned out to be a pretty good holiday weekend for Jeffrey Abbey started at Heart O’ Texas Speedway’s Baby Blue Harcrow Memorial. Abbey led start to finish in Saturday’s 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event and went home with a $5,000 share of the purse, plus a $2,500 share of the drivers’ auction and lap money. “I ran Heart O’ Texas pretty regularly and won a lot of races in classes I’ve raced in there over the years,” Abbey said following his eighth checkers of 2022. “I just protected the bottom and did everything I could to hold Jason (Batt) and Dustin (Mooney) off.”  Abbey had won both his heat races and the qualifying feature on Friday night, then lined up outside Mooney on the front row in Saturday’s big show.  He stayed in front through multiple restarts with the last yellow flying with four laps left. 2019 IMCA Red River Modified Tour set to start this weekend, May 25-31

By Jackson Braun KENNEDALE, Texas – Pre-registration has officially closed for the 2019 edition of the IMCA Red River Modified Tour.  If the quality of racing from last year is any indication, everyone is in for a treat during the tour’s second running. Eighty-one IMCA Modifieds have registered, along with 62 Smiley’s Racing Prod­ucts Southern SportMods and 19 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.  Inaugural champion Chris Elliott from Abilene looks to defend his Modified crown as the stacked field of racers will try to figure out how to put together a championship run. IMCA Modifieds will compete for a $1,500 prize every night, with an entry into the feature worth a $100 payday. Winners of these events will all be qualifiers for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Gould, Scrivner, Hanson hoist hardware at Heart O’ Texas Speedway Fall Classic

WACO, Texas (Oct. 23) – Another big race at Heart O’ Texas Speedway brought out the best in William Gould. The 24th annual Fall Classic saw Robert Scrivner and Lance Hanson impress, too. All three were $2,000 feature winners Saturday night, Gould in the IMCA Modifieds, Scrivner in the Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods and Hanson in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. The recently crowned Razor Chassis South Central Region champion Gould had won the All Star Shootout fueled by Fast Shafts main event at HO’T in May and led green to checkered of the 2021 season finale.  “The track was black from top to bottom and start to finish I was in the right place at the right time,” said Gould, newly eligible for the 2022 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I led going into turn one and kept the car going where it needed to.”  Kevin Green, J.P.
