BOONE, Iowa (April 5, 2025) — Cam Reimers emerged victorious in a back-and-forth battle with Cole Suckow to win Saturday’s 20-lap Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod feature during the Iowa Frostbuster at “Iowa’s Action Track,” Boone Speedway.

Suckow, the defending Independence Motor Speedway champion, led early after a tight duel with 2023 Harris Clash winner Reimers. The two traded the top spot multiple times through the middle portion of the race while navigating lapped traffic.

A late caution with eight laps to go set up a dramatic finish. Reimers took the lead on lap 14, but Suckow answered a lap later. Reimers again surged ahead on lap 17, only for Suckow to reclaim it.

Reimers, of Kelley, made the final pass stick coming to the white flag and held on to score his first win of the year — a redemption drive after an early exit while battling for the win the night before at Marshalltown.

Nebraska’s Tyler Nerud, the defending Beatrice Speedway champion, snatched third at the line over two-time reigning Boone track champion Dusty Masolini.

Thornton Controls the Modified Field for Frostbuster Glory

Defending Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champion Dylan Thornton delivered a dominant performance in the 30-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature.

Two-time Missouri State champion Cory Wray got the initial jump, but California natives Thornton and Troy Morris III quickly surged forward. Thornton took command on lap three and built a comfortable lead before the first caution on lap six.

A furious battle for second broke out behind him between Trevor Fitz, Jake McBirnie, and Jeremy Mills. McBirnie, a two-time Boone track champion, gained the position but was heavily pressured by Mills, the eight-time reigning Hancock County Speedway title holder.

A debris caution with 14 laps remaining slowed the pace, but Thornton — now a Belle Plaine resident — was sharp on the restart and continued to dominate.

The fight for third flared up in the closing circuits, with Logan Anderson and Fitz swapping spots until Ethan Braaksma launched a thrilling last-lap double overtake to steal the position.

Thornton’s win marked his third of the year and first in Razor Chassis North Central Region action. Mills was second, with Braaksma rounding out the podium.

Shryock Charges Late for Stock Car Victory

Kelly Shryock stormed to his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season in the 25-lap Sunoco IMCA Stock Car main.

Jimmy Gustin, the 2010 Super Nationals Modified winner, and 10-time defending Minnesota State champion Dan Mackenthun battled early, with Gustin getting the edge. Two-time Super Nationals Stock Car title earner, Devin Smith, and Shryock began closing in, and a lap-11 caution eliminated the reigning Marshalltown Speedway Stock Car champion’s massive lead.

Shryock, the defending Super Nationals Stock Car winner, powered into the lead on lap 14 with a move in turn two. A pair of cautions and a red flag with five to go bunched the field, but Shryock was untouchable on the restarts and delivered a big win for the Lake Mills Motorsports team.

A final-lap bobble from Gustin allowed Braden Richards to slip past and steal second, with Gustin settling for third.

Richards Runs Away for Another Hobby Stock Triumph

Nebraska’s Dillon Richards was lights out in the non-stop 20-lap Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock feature, cruising to his third B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region win and 11th overall of the season.

The 2022 National champion, and winner of the 2025 IMCA TV Winter Nationals, from Beatrice took the lead early and left the field behind. As he hit lapped traffic, the battle for second intensified between Eric Knutson and Joe Doran.

Doran eventually prevailed in the duel, but the reigning Beatrice Speedway and Eagle Raceway track champion, Richards, was long gone and collected his second win of the weekend after Friday’s Frostbuster score at Marshalltown.

Doran finished second, followed by Knutson in third.

The IMCA Modified and IMCA Stock Car features were qualifying events for the Fast Shafts All-Star Modified Invitational and the B&B Racing Chassis All-Star Stock Car Invitational, respectively. Both invitationals will be held during the 2025 Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Dylan Thornton, already eligible to qualify with his two wins at the IMCA.TV Winter Nationals in January, added another impressive performance. Kelly Shryock’s Stock Car win also earned him eligibility to qualify for the B&B Racing Chassis Invitational lineup.
