BELLS, Texas (Apr. 12, 2025) — The season opener for Grayson County Speedway saw an exciting 20-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature where 2013 National and six-time reigning GRT Race Cars South Central Region title winner William Gould stole the show — capping off a rare doubleheader sweep after winning earlier in the night at Southern Oklahoma Speedway.
Joe Gomez, the defending track champion, took the early lead before being pressured by Jay Wells before a caution slowed the pace a few laps in. On the restart, Gomez spun in turn four, handing the lead to Wells.
Larry Osborne moved into second and began hounding Wells for the top spot. Rodney White, the 2022 Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMod National champion, joined the battle, making it a thrilling three-car fight. Osborne briefly grabbed the lead, only for Wells to reclaim it the next lap.
Another caution bunched up the field, and Osborne again surged to the front. But it was Gould, piloting the Kerry Fryer-owned No. 60, who charged from 19th to the lead, clearing Osborne in one smooth move on lap 12.
White kept the pressure on in the closing laps, but Gould held steady to score his fourth win of the year in South Central Region action — and his second victory of the night. White finished second with Osborne in third.
Landers Lights It Up in SportMod Feature
In the Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMod 20-lap main, Josh Landers led wire-to-wire to score his first win of 2025 and kick off his title defense in style.
Landers, the reigning Grayson County Speedway champion, battled early with Landon Capps before stretching out a lead on a long green-flag run. A lap 4 caution bunched up the field, but Landers was flawless on the restart.
Capps held off heavy pressure from two-time Southern SportMod track champion Cary Stephens for second during the mid-portions of the race. A caution with 5 laps to go gave
Stephens one last shot, but the battle for second allowed Landers — of Tom Bean — to drive away once more.
Landers took the checkers unchallenged, while Capps narrowly edged Stephens for second in a spirited fight to the finish.
