BOONE, Iowa (Apr. 19, 2025) — An exciting 20-lap Sunoco IMCA Stock Car main event saw Jonathon Logue edge out David Smith in a dramatic finish to claim his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season at Boone Speedway.

Doug Smith, the 2020 National champion and 2016 Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s winner in the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods, blitzed to the point on the opening lap after starting fourth. After an early caution, David Smith moved into second on the restart, but Logue began working the low side and passed him for the runner-up spot on lap five before another yellow slowed the action.

David Smith, a four-time Super Nationals champion and the 2008 National champ, briefly regained the lead on a restart before Logue, from Logansport, nosed ahead at the line on lap 11. Logue, a three-time Boone SportMod champion and three-time Super Nationals winner in the division, held the top spot as the Smith brothers battled for second.

A late caution with four laps left set up a thrilling finish. Logue stuck to the bottom as David Smith ripped the cushion. The pair were even at the white flag, but Logue prevailed by inches at the line. Doug Smith settled for third behind his brother.

Mills Charges Late for First Modified Win of 2025

Russ Dickerson and Chad Porter traded the lead in the early laps of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified 20-lap feature. Porter, the 2022 Minnesota State champion, took command on lap two before a caution reset the field.

Jimmy Gustin, a six-time Boone champ and 2010 Super Nationals winner, moved into second before Dickerson reclaimed the spot. Jeremy Mills, the eight-time defending Hancock County Speedway champ, methodically worked forward and passed Porter following a lap 13 caution.

Mills, of Clear Lake, powered away on the final restart to earn his first Razor Chassis North Central Region win of 2025 after beginning the race ninth. Gustin and 2008 track champion Todd Shute completed the podium.

Avila Rallies From Eighth to Score SportMod Victory

Kyle Free led the first portion of the 18-lap Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod main before Camdan Vincent closed in and challenged for the top spot. A series of cautions broke up the battle, but Free maintained control on the top side while Vincent worked the bottom.

Matt Avila advanced from eighth and made his move into second with seven laps remaining. Two laps later, he slipped past Free for the lead and never looked back.

Avila, a Boone native, recorded his first win of the season. Free held on for second, while 2009 Modified Super Nationals winner Randy Havlik charged from 12th to third.

Butler Dominates for First Hobby Stock Win

Seth Butler, of Glidden, controlled the 15-lap Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock main from start to finish. Butler pulled away early and never looked back, claiming his first win in B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region competition.

Aron Fye held off heavy pressure to maintain second for much of the race, while Eric Knutson reeled him in during the closing laps to finish runner-up. Fye settled for third.

Zehm Outlasts Gray for Mod Lite Glory

Scott Bailey led early in the 15-lap Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lite feature before Austin Gray took command on lap two. Bryan Zehm worked into second and challenged Gray until a wild moment on lap 7 saw Gray bicycle in turn four.

Zehm, the reigning Corn Belt Clash champion, capitalized on the miscue to take the lead. Despite late lapped traffic, he maintained his advantage to earn his first win of 2025. Gray held on for second, while four-time national champ and two-time Super Nationals winner Dillon Raffurty of Missouri finished third.
