Henderson wins at North Platte in borrowed car

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (June 4) – Saying that the racing was action packed would be an understatement when describing the Saturday Night Thunder created by the competitors at Lincoln County Raceway. Standing in the winner’s circle at the end of the evening were Colton Osborn, Henry Henderson, Jeff Whiting, Zach Olmstead and Andrew Baumgardner.

One week late it seemed, but it was better later than never for Henderson in winning the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. It seemed that one week ago Henderson was cruising to the win only to get caught in a lapped traffic accident.

Fast forward to this week and Henderson was up to the task in a car borrowed from Brandon Clough as he grabbed the lead on the third lap and never looked back to win from his third row starting position. Gary Long was second and Bryan Herrick third.

It took five laps for Osborn of Cozad to work through the traffic from his fourth row starting position to grab the lead, as he held that position for the remainder of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Cole Hodges held the lead for several laps and earned runner-up honors. Third was veteran wheelman Jay Steffens.

In one of the most exciting races of the night, Whiting powered his way to the finish and won by less than the length of a fender in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. One night after rolling his car in Albion, Whiting battled through eight cautions to be in contention during the waning laps, after starting on the outside of the seventh row.

Mikey Dancer was a very close second place and third was Kyle Werkmeister.

Olmstead cruised to the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory. Olmstead started in the third row, took the lead on the fifth lap and never looked back. Earning a podium finish in second place overall was Jacob Wolsleben. Coming from the back to the lead group, Brady Weinman scored the show finish.

The duo of Andrew Baumgardner and Tom Baumgardner finished 1-2 in the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature. Close behind was Andrew McClellen.
