Garnhart, Soppe score at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (May 6) – Sunday’s Merfeld Brothers Auto IMCA Modifieds feature at Dubuque Speedway was another nail biter as several drivers took their turns at the front.

Bryce Garnhart battled with Austin Moyer for much of the 20-lap main event before crossing under the checkers ahead of Moyer. Last week’s winner Jason Schueller turned in another fine run in taking third.

Defending IMCA national champion Tyler Soppe scored the feature win in the 18-lap GSI Collision Specialists Northern Sportmod main event.

Soppe fought to the front from a fourth row start to score the win ahead of early leader Justin Becker. Scott Busch followed up last week’s win with a third place finish.

$1,000 top check, All-Star berth for IMCA Modifieds at stake July 4 at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – A $1,000 to win, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event for IMCA Modifieds is now scheduled this Sunday at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. IMCA Sunoco Late Models, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are also on the July 4 ticket and all divisions will be draw/redraw. The Fast-Shafts qualifying event for Modifieds was rained out and rescheduled from last Sunday. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing to follow. Pit passes are $30 or $15 for kids ages 7-13 and free for six and under. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors ages 65 and up, $6 for student ages 13-17 and free for kids 12 and under accompanying a paid adult. Fair races on July 28 and Aug. 1 also pay the Modifieds $1,000 to win.

Garnhart speeds to Smokey Rupp Memorial win

The defending track champion put the pedal down on the restart and cruised to the 25-lap Smokey Rupp Memorial Merfeld Brothers IMCA Modified win Sunday at Dubuque Speedway. The $1,000 victory put him on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I know it was bad for him, but it made me happy,” Garnhart said in Hoker Trucking / C&W Trucking/Kam Koncepts Victory Circle. “Car ran great and I can’t thank everyone enough that works on this and supports us.” Hometown driver Austin Moyer helped lead the field to John Ryan’s green flag and quickly opened a large advantage. Switch in lines pays off for Callahan

The Dubuque veteran switched lines on the fly and took the Eichman’s Bar and Grill IMCA Late Model 25-lap feature Sunday evening on his home track. “I thought it would be a top side track, but that changed,” Callahan said in Dubuque Speedway’s Hoker Trucking/C&W Trucking/Kam Koncepts Victory Circle. “It got treacherous up there so we hooked up down low.” Callahan rolled off fifth and quickly moved into the fray for the point. He moved past Ron Klein on a late restart en route to the win. Luke Goedert also found the bottom to his liking and took second late. Klein, Jeremiah Hurst and Luke Merfeld followed. Logue Tops Smith Brothers in Boone Stock Car Thriller

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Apr. 19, 2025) — An exciting 20-lap Sunoco IMCA Stock Car main event saw Jonathon Logue edge out David Smith in a dramatic finish to claim his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season at Boone Speedway. Doug Smith, the 2020 National champion and 2016 Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s winner in the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods, blitzed to the point on the opening lap after starting fourth. After an early caution, David Smith moved into second on the restart, but Logue began working the low side and passed him for the runner-up spot on lap five before another yellow slowed the action. David Smith, a four-time Super Nationals champion and the 2008 National champ, briefly regained the lead on a restart before Logue, from Logansport, nosed ahead at the line on lap 11. Nerud Nets Bonus Cash With Last-Lap Pass at Eagle’s Ice Breaker Challenge

(Apr. 19, 2025) — Tyler Nerud had his work cut out for him if he hoped to double up at Eagle Raceway’s Ice Breaker Challenge and collect the extra $1,000 bonus offered for a repeat win in the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods, as he was starting deeper in the field from inside the sixth row. The first official lap saw Adam Vrbka showing the way. Vrbka continued to show the way, but Nerud effectively moved his way forward getting into third after a triple overtake on lap 7 and got into second around the midway mark. Nerud closed the gap steadily until he flew high and wide through turns 3 and 4 on the final lap and passed Vrbka just before the flag stand. Shatzer Storms to Win at Hagerstown

By Jim Haines HAGERSTOWN, MD (Apr. 19, 2025) — Starting out as a warm spring race night, Dylan Shatzer took Al Moser’s sprinter to the top spot and stayed there in the 25-lap RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car feature at Hagerstown Speedway. The co-sanctioned event between the Virginia Sprint Series and Laurel Highlands Sprint Series marked the 2025 season opener for the Virginia tour and showcased Shatzer’s dominance on the historic Maryland half-mile. As storms were on the way the feature started with Kolby Weaver and Colton Hindershot pacing the field to green, Weaver stayed high as Shatzer dove to the inside rail and was already going for the lead off turn four as he crossed the line just in front of Weaver and Donnie Hendershot. Shatzer really had the bottom line working as Ken Duke made his way to second with Weaver and Donnie Hendershot in tow.
