Clements notches first career victory

By Dave Buss SHAWANO, Wis. (April 24) – Hardy fans came out Saturday evening to Shawano Speedway to see Luke Lemmens, Tyler Sobiesczyk and Mike Mullen pick up IMCA feature wins. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods led off feature action with Dylan Waldvogel and Sobiesczyk on the front row. Sobiesczyk did not let his great starting position go to waste as he stormed out to a commanding lead in the early part of the race. Waldvogel was challenged and eventually passed by John Holtger, who got close to the Sobiescyk machine on a couple of occasions but was not able to make the pass. Back in traffic, Jayden Schmidt was working his way forward in a spirited battle with Jeffrey Teske and Max Oreskovich.  Schmidt eventually grabbed the third spot with Teske fourth. (June 19) – Last week it was the future in the spotlight, this week it was the past as two new members were inducted into the Hall of Fame at Shawano Speedway.  George Giesen and Ed Bertram were honored for their past accomplishments at the speedway and in racing. With friends and family along with numerous current and former drivers who have benefited from the new Hall of Famers’ contributions to the racing world in attendance, the two were honored in a ceremony at intermission.  IMCA Modifieds hit the track with numerous drivers who got their start in go carts at the GSR Raceway run by Bertram. It didn’t take long until the yellow slowed the action with Jeff Bodendorfer leading the way. SHAWANO, Wis. (July 23-24) – Fans were given two opportunities to watch racing action at Shawano Speedway as the Mid-Summer Classic kicked off on Friday. Mike Mullen was the story on opening night, picking up All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility wins in both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car divisions in very impressive fashion while Jayden Schmidt paced the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Saturday would provide just as much action as Marcus Yarie, Jeffery Teske and Chucky Forstner found victory lane. The Northern SportMods kicked action off with what looked to be another great run by Max Oreskovich jumping to the early lead. Oreskovich led the early part of the race with Schmidt giving him astiff challenge for the top spot.  Jeff Schmuhl and Teske joined the battle up front. As the leaders entered turn one, Oreskovich’s engine expired, taking him to the outside wall and collecting Schmidt, who was able to continue after a trip to pit lane.  Schmuhl also suffered mechanical issues during the caution and retired his car for the night.
