SELINSGROVE, Pa. (Aug. 27, 2022) – After a couple of close-but-not-quite finishes at Selinsgrove Speedway, Logan Spahr was due, and the second-year Pennsylvania Sprint Series driver collected that debt Saturday night by scoring his first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory Saturday after a torrid duel with veteran Doug Dodson.

Spahr took the lead from Tyler Snook on lap three after some side-by-side racing. Then, after a red flag for an incident involving Mike Melair, Austin Reed, and Justin Mills on the front stretch, Spahr lost the lead to Dodson, who had charged from eighth starting.

Undaunted, Spahr went after Dodson and the two swapped the lead back and forth until Spahr adjusted his line to take away Dodson’s preferred line.

With the race staying green for the last 17 circuits of the 20-lapper, traffic also became a factor, but Spahr handled that situation like a seasoned veteran. His victory margin over Dodson was about 10 car lengths.

In victory lane, Spahr said he had not expected a win so early in his RaceSaver career; this was his 33rd race.

The excited winner thanked crew and sponsors, referring to them as family. Those sponsors, incidentally, include the Pennsylvania Game Commission, which will sponsor the Race to Hunting Season, an exciting new PASS special event Sept. 17 at Selinsgrove.

Garrett Bard sliced through the field from 10th starting to third. Snook, who battled for the lead in last Saturday’s make-up feature at Port Royal Speedway, had his second straight strong showing with a fourth, and Zach Rhodes was fifth.

Reed, the only driver from the lap three incident able to stay in the race, was the race’s hard charger, coming from 26th starting to 15th. Rookie Timmy Bittner, who has made multiple hard charges this year, came from 24th to 14th.

Duke adds Keystone Challenge to IMCA RaceSaver resume

(April 6, 2024) – Drew Young and Doug Dodson seemed ready to settle the 12th annual Keystone RaceSaver Challenge between themselves; third-running Ken Duke admitted he had nothing for the leaders. Then, with two laps to go in the River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series’ biggest race of the year Saturday at Port Royal Speedway, both Young and Dodson slowed with flat tires. Duke admitted he broke out in a smile when he saw that had happened. He had the lead, but he had veteran Roger Irvine, 2023 PASS points runner-up Zach Rhodes, Jeffrey Weaver and high-riding Nick Sweigert on his bumper for the restart. Reed snares Race to Hunting Season PASS win at Selinsgrove

(Sept. 17, 2022) – Austin Reed captured his second major race of the Pennsylvania Sprint Series season Saturday, leading from start to finish to capture the Pennsylvania Game Commission-sponsored Race to Hunting Season at Selinsgrove Speedway. The win came 2-1/2 months after Reed’s victory in the Nittany 40 at Clinton County Speedway. Those have been the two highest-paying PASS events among the 33 run so far this year. That race had featured a furious battle between Reed and Garrett Bard, but while Selinsgrove was hardly easy, nobody got alongside Reed to attempt a pass, and his final margin of victory over runner-up Josh Spicer of Julian was 1.615 seconds.  The moment of uncertainty for Reed’s win came on lap 17, when Doug Dodson hit the wall in turn two, bringing out the race’s only caution and erasing a huge lead.  But Reed got a good jump on the restart and the crowd’s attention soon turned to a torrid battle for third place between Logan Spahr and Bard. PASS entries total 46, red hot Bard wins at Port Royal

(Aug. 7) – Garrett Bard won his fifth Pennsylvania Sprint Series race in his last sixth starts Saturday night, taking advantage of his second straight front-row starting position draw and fighting off stout challenges from Kenny Heffner and Tyler Snook to top the 20-lap feature at Port Royal Speedway.  The defending national champion Bard received his final and most serious challenge on a late restart with six laps to go. Rookie Snook dove to the inside and briefly claimed the lead, but Bard’s outside power was enough to return him to the top spot and the win.  Kenny Heffner also challenged earlier in the race and re-took second place from Snook in the waning laps. Ken Duke and Dom Melair rounded out the top five. Forty-six IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars contended.
