Sunday visit to Wisconsin’s Angell Park Speedway is first for IMCA Modifieds

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (Aug. 7, 2023) – A first-ever Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature winner will be crowned this Sunday at Angell Park Speedway.

IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win, eligibility for Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying, and a minimum of $100 to start in their first visit to the 1/3-mile Wisconsin speed factory at Sun Prairie and just five minutes northeast of Madison.

The sanctioned division joins Angell Park’s annual King of the Park program on Aug. 13. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Wisconsin State points will be awarded.

“We wanted to give more drivers in other classes the opportunity to race here and there are a lot of Modified drivers in the area,” explained Angell Park’s Alex Gilhart, citing IMCA competitors at Lafayette County Speedway and at Beaver Dam Raceway, where he flags midweek shows.

“We feel the IMCA sanction will get more cars and the racing will be good,” he continued. “I think it’s going to be exciting. We have had drivers who have never raced here before tell us that they will be here on Sunday.”

Pit gates open at 1:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 5 p.m. with racing to follow.

Pit passes are $30. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and military, $8 for students ages 12-17 and $5 for ages 6-11, and free for five and under. A family pack (two adults and up to four children ages 17 and under) is $40.

Angell Park Speedway owns the distinction of being owned by the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department. King of the Park is promoted by Gregg McKarns.

“Angell Park has a special history and we’re proud to see our Modified division become part of that,” said IMCA Vice President of Operations Jim Stannard.
