PEORIA, Ariz. – The 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval is back in action for two full nights this weekend with the running of the 26th annual IMCA Desert Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19 and 20.

IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds will take center stage, battling it out for $1,500 to win both nights with the pure stocks, renegades, dwarf cars and AMA Mod Lites in action as well. The green flag flies at 7 p.m. both nights.

After having his seven-race win streak snapped on the opening night of the recent Stock Car Shootout on Aug. 30, Ricky Thornton, Jr., will try to get to work on another win streak after topping the IMCA Modified feature the next night.

In total, Thornton, Jr., has won 12 of 15 IMCA Modified features at Canyon in 2014 with Cody Center interrupting the run of Thornton domination on Aug. 30. Center is 46 points behind Thornton in the track championship points race with Steve Stultz four more points back in third and Ryan Roath another two points behind in fourth. George Fronsman rounds out the current top five in track points.

Both Friday and Saturday features for the IMCA Modifieds offer up a minimum of $150 to start with full points awarded both nights.

Tickets are $15 each night, with a $2 discount for military, seniors and students. Children ages 7-12 are $6 with six and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20 each night.
