MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 11, 2024) – Mother Nature provided a beautiful night for racing as Maquoketa Speedway hosted Tub O’ Towels Night at the races on Saturday. One hundred and five race teams took part in night number two of the 2024 racing season at the quarter-mile speedway.

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars provided another exciting feature event and a first-time visitor to the Maquoketa Speedway victory lane. Dustin Vis hit his marks lap after lap and was able to hold off a very pesky Tanner Allen for the feature win.

“I knew Tanner would race me clean and he did for the entire race, I felt him applying pressure and it was a fun race and really good for this old dog to finally get a win here,” said Vis.

Allen finished second ahead of a fast-closing Gage Neal.

Jeff Larson captured another win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division. Larson threaded the needle on the initial green flag and got to the front quickly from his sixth position start.

Larson then set sail on the top side of the multi-grooved track, kept his momentum up and sailed to the win ahead of young Charlie Mohr. The 99M of Mohr was nearly able to catch Larson on several occasions but was not able to pose a more serious threat to the smooth running Larson.

To say the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature was another thriller would be an understatement.

Jared Miles led early before the trio of Tyler Soppe, Jarrett Franzen and Shane Paris took over the top three spots and went on to provide the fans with an action-packed race. Paris had taken over the top spot with Franzen and Soppe in tow, the white flag was about to wave when heavy contact between Franzen and Paris brought the race to a grinding halt.

Both Paris and Franzen went to the pits instead of restarting at the tail and Soppe was the benefactor of the incident and took command on the restart and went on to record the win over Scott Williams and Jacob Arp.

The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature saw a couple veteran drivers race hard for the lead as Jimmy Doescher held Randy LaMar at bay until Lamar was able to use the extreme top side to make a move off of turn over and take over the top spot very late in the main event.

Lamar scored a slim victory over Doescher and Daniel Wauters raced to a third place finish.

Maquoketa Speedway will be back in action on Saturday, May 18 as the IMCA Sunoco Late Models will be back along with the AIRS Cars being an added attraction. Hot laps will be held at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.
