COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – Mother Nature provided a perfect evening for dirt track racing at CJ Speedway Friday evening.

The night started off with the conclusion of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event that was suspended one week earlier by rains that fell with five laps scored. The main event picked up on lap six with Luke Phillips leading the pack to the green on the restart.

Phillips went on to lead the final seven laps for the win while a whole lot of racing went on for the runner-up spot. At the checkers it was a family affair as Shane Richardson took second ahead of John Richardson with Jason Shutterle crossing under the checkers in fourth. 

Following the conclusion of that feature, racing continued as CJ Speedway hosted a full program of racing on Extreme Rentals Night at the races.

Austin Kemper scored the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win in his new B & B Racing Chassis car. It had been six years since Kemper had made his way to victory lane at his hometown CJ Speedway.

Kemper found the top side of the smooth slick track to his liking and hit his marks every lap in route to the win. John Oliver Jr. advanced from the fifth row to apply pressure to Kemper late in the race but Kemper proved to be up for the challenge. Norman Bean followed Oliver across the finish line in third. 

Another driving breaking a dry spell was Kyle Madden who drove to the win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division. Madden also found the top side to his liking as he drove to the win over defending track champion Jarrett Brown, who advanced seven spots to take the runner-up honors.

Madden stated in victory lane, “Tonight was all about being patient and hitting my marks.” Brandon Banks followed Brown across the line in third. 

Sean Wyett started the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod main event in the 10th position and quickly worked to the front, taking the lead on lap three and went on to score the win.

With Wyett out front and lapped traffic coming in to play late in the race Colton Livezey was able to get under the checkers in second, a lane change coming to the checkers earned Nick Aupperle a strong third place finish. 

The scheduled IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event saw pole sitter Ryan Havel take his no. 0 car to the win. Havel raced to the 12 lap feature win over Billy Stanford and Kale Hemsley. 

Friday, May 24 will be Holmes Highway Service and Jamie Lynn’s Coffee House night at CJ Speedway. Hot laps will take to the track at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.

CJ Speedway crowns season champions 

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Aug. 11, 2023) – Friday night, CJ Speedway held its final Friday night race of the 2023 season as Midwest Frame & Axle of Iowa City hosted the season championship races.  The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds had a season high of 24 drivers. Kyle Madden led the majority of the race from his outside front row start but a late caution brought the field to his rear bumper for the restart. Madden was unable to hold off Jarrett Brown who came from a 12th position start to take the lead. CJ Speedway hosts two outstanding nights of special races 

By Jerry Mackey and Anthony Ainslee  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Sept. 22-23, 2023) – CJ Speedway hosted two special nights of racing on the Louisa County Fairgrounds with racers coming from great distances to delight the race fans. Friday night the 22nd of September was the Battle on the Levee. Originally scheduled to be held during the Louisa County Fair, the race was postponed due to the excessive heat during the summer and was run as the opener of the weekend which also hosted the “Governors Cup,“ special on Saturday. The Battle on the Levee featured a talented field of 86 drivers.  Twenty-six Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds took the green and a stellar field battled it out for 20 laps for their main event. Simmons scores first CJ Speedway IMCA Modified win

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 9, 2023) – IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing returned to CJ Speedway on Friday night with near perfect weather conditions and a solid field of race cars were on hand to put on a great night of racing on a perfectly prepared race track in front of a nice crowd. It is always special to see a regular competitor score the first win of their racing career at the track and that was the case Friday night as Dakota Simmons, The Douds Missile, captured the win in the very tough Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature. An early dust-up saw the cars of Troy Philpott and Brian Bushong retire to the pit area before one lap was completed. With the lineup reset, the race was on and the very racy track allowed plenty of action as the front runners came from deep in the field.
