Shryock scores $2,000 Hobo Hustle checkers

BRITT, Iowa (June 7, 2024) – Cloudy skies and early sprinkles did little to dampen the exciting action on Friday night at Hancock County Speedway, with IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars competing for a $2,000 Hobo Hustle top prize. Landus was the night’s title sponsor. 

Kelly Shryock hustled to the lead the early in the  feature and motored out to a sizeable advantage that he held throughout much of the race.

While he was leading, the action throughout the rest of the field was intense, as Colby Fett made a late-race run around the outside of the speedway to ultimately finish second. Troy Swearingen was in contention all night and finished third, ahead of Dan Mackenthun and Heath Tulp.

Shryock, already guaranteed a starting spot in the upcoming B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational, had prefaced that win with the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified checkers.

He built a lead of more than three seconds, however once Jeremy Mills got to the runner-up spot, it got interesting.

In the last handful of laps, Mills was erasing Shryock’s lead by a half second a lap at one point. On the last circuit, Mills pulled a big slider to briefly capture the lead, but Shryock’s crossover move was just enough to maintain the lead at the $1,000 checkers.

Jamie Anderson, Todd Steinhart and Chad Porter completed the top five. Shryock came into the night already  Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible.

Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods had Colby Fett dominate the feature.

Fett survived a late-race caution and Josh Appel’s repeated late attempts on the inside to capture his second win in as many days. Alec Fett finished third, while Brian Schrage raced back to fourth, ahead of Jacob Tachney. 

For 15 exciting laps, Steve Wickman held off the best that IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks have to offer in Northern Iowa. Wickman managed to keep all challengers behind him, holding off Brandon Nielsen, Lucas Smith, Drew Barglof and Cody Hubbell for the hard-earned win. 

Racing action resumes at 7 p.m. at Hancock County Speedway on Friday, June 14.

Hobo 40 for IMCA Stock Cars July 30 at Hancock County

BRITT, Iowa – Forty laps will be the distance and $2,000 will be the winner’s share of the Hobo 40 feature for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars on Friday, July 30 at Hancock County Speedway. The Hancock County Fair show pays a minimum of $200 to start with a $75 entry fee payable through the MyRacePass link. The winner becomes eligible to qualify for the B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational.  IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are also on the draw/redraw card. Pit passes are $35. Spectator admission is $15 for adults and free for kids ages 12 and under. IMCA Modified stars shine at Hancock County specials

BRITT, Iowa – Three very rich nights of racing give the stars of the IMCA Modified division the opportunity to shine at Hancock County Speedway. The Thursday, Aug. 9 Night of 1,000 Stars at Britt pays a guaranteed $3,500 to win and $300 to start, plus a bonus of $1,000 to the leader at halfway and another $1,000 if the winner has perfect attendance at Britt this season. The Night of 10,000 Stars on Friday, Aug. 10 sports a $7,000 top check, plus $1,000 bonuses to the halfway leader, for perfect attendance and for having won on Thursday as well. A minimum of $400 will be paid to start that main event. And the Saturday, Aug. 11 Bob Shryock Memorial All Stars pays $3,000 to win and a minimum of $500 to start. Winner banks $2,500 at IMCA Northern SportMod Nationals

BRITT, Iowa – There’s a $2,500 check waiting for the winner of Hancock County Speedway’s Tuesday, June 18 Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod Nationals.  The MaxYield Seed-sponsored special pays a minimum of $300 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and E3 Spark Plugs Iowa State, but no track points will be awarded and top finishers from each heat advance to the $200 to win DeKalb/Asgrow Dash to determine their starting spots in the main event. Entry fee of $50 must be postmarked by June 14 and should be mailed to 4 Wide Promotions at PO Box 424 in Garner, Iowa, 50438. Late entry fee is $75. Also running that evening at Britt are IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.  National, regional and state points will be awarded in those three divisions.
