ALGONA, Iowa (July 18, 2024) – Mike Smith won the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature to highlight an exciting night of dirt track racing for the Jess Weishaar Memorial held at the Kossuth County Speedway Thursday night.

It was the first time this season there was racing at the speedway two weeks in a row as everyone got ready for the annual Salute to Veterans race on July 25.

The Hobby Stock feature was the featured event of the evening as 22 cars battled for a $1,000 first place check and a guaranteed $100 to start the race.

Jeremy Wegner was the first lap leader as Cody Hubbell took over the top spot on the next lap before the first yellow flag as race came out after Smith and Hubbell spun out and collected five other cars.

Things settled down for a couple laps as the halfway mark of the feature saw Cody Hubbell in the lead followed by Dylan Nelson, Smith, Wegner and Justin Fredrick.

Lap number 12 brought yellow flag number six as a barrel was knocked out onto the track in turn two. The final eight laps of the race went off smoothly as Smith took over the lead with one lap to go coming out of turn four and won his second feature of the season at the track.

Hubbell came across the finish line in second place as Nelson was third with Wegner placing fourth and Josh Sidles was fifth. Nelson was the hard charger as he went from 12th starting to finish third.

Kelly Shryock, already guaranteed a starting spot in the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational, topped the $750 to win feature for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.

Other winners were Jeremy Mills in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Matt Looft in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Brooke Osler in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts.
