MANDAN, N.D. (July 19, 2024) – Hall of Fame Night Friday brought Hall of Famers to the track, to watch future Hall of Famers race at Dacotah Speedway.
Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds had a make-up feature from June 28. Jacoby Traut and Crist Pittenger led the field to the green flag. Traut led early while Pittenger had his hands full with Quentin Kinzley.
Although Kinzley appeared to be faster, he struggled to get around the young driver. They battled door-to-door for second place until Kinzley took the position and set his sights on Traut. Once again, Kinzley struggled to get around Traut but practiced patience on the young driver.
With 12 laps to go, Kinzley overtook the top spot and pulled away. Kinzley went on to win his third straight victory at Dacotah Speedway. Shawn Strand finished second ahead of Mark Dahl.
Zach Hughbanks wasted no time going to the front in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature field.
Hughbanks quickly distanced himself from the pack while Kyrs Yost and Alex Thompson battled hard for second. Thompson, who struggled in his heat race earlier in the night, found some speed for the feature and passed Yost for second but couldn’t reel in Hughbanks, who led all 10 laps and cruised to his third straight victory at Mandan. Thompson settled for second ahead of defending track champion Yost.
Outside pole sitter Derrick Appert quickly grabbed the lead from pole sitter Casey Binstock in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. However, cautions plagued the main event. When the field could string together a few laps of racing, the battle for the lead was exciting between Appert, Scott Gartner, Shawn Strand, Marlyn Seidler and Binstock.
Following a lap eight restart, Seidler grabbed the lead and brought Strand with him. Gartner made it a three-car battle for the lead but while going for the lead along the high side of the track, he got too high off the track and spun.
On the final restart of the night, Seidler pulled away from Strand for his first IMCA Stock Car victory. Jarrett Carter, in only his second start in the division, finished third.
In the final main event of the night, Kollin Hibdon led the field to the green flag in the scheduled IMCA Modified feature.
Hibdon was the class of the field and quickly pulled away from the field. It was a battle for second between Seidler and Jeremy Keller before Keller slipped by on lap seven. A mid-race caution regrouped the field and on the restart, Seidler regained the second position.
Keller would get off the front stretch, allowing Mark Dahl and Strand to drive by. In the closing laps, Dahl was all over Seidler’s rear bumper as Strand lurked in fourth. Coming to the white flag, Dahl passed Seidler for second. Dahl crossed the finish line in the runner-up position. Seidler narrowly edged Strand for third.
