Zentgraf Goes Back-to-Back in Southern SportMod Action at Ardmore

By Ben Deatherage

ARDMORE, Okla. (Apr. 12, 2025) — The Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMods put on a show Saturday night at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, with Wichita Falls, Texas, racer Payton Zentgraf coming out on top in the 20-lap main event.

John Miller led the opening circuit before Devin Chambers took over on lap two and quickly pulled away. Behind him, Miller and Payton Zentgraf battled for second, giving Chambers room to extend his advantage.

Zentgraf eventually cleared Miller and set his sights on Chambers. The two front-runners engaged in a thrilling side-by-side duel as Zentgraf worked the high side lap after lap. On lap 16, he finally made the pass stick.

Even lapped traffic couldn’t slow Zentgraf in the closing laps as he raced to his second consecutive win at Southern Oklahoma. Chambers settled for second while 20-year-old hometown driver Austin Brownlee claimed third.

Gould Stays Perfect at Southern Oklahoma with Third Win of 2025

Six-time defending GRT Race Cars South Central Region champion William Gould continued his unbeaten streak at Southern Oklahoma Speedway with a determined drive to victory in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main.

Texan David Tanner took control early in the 20-lapper, but a caution on lap one brought the field back together. On the restart, Trent Gibby moved into second, only to be caught and passed by 2013 National champion Gould.

Gould then set his sights on Tanner and took the lead just past the halfway mark. Soon after, Tate Butler charged to the inside of Tanner and took over the runner-up spot.

Butler matched Calera veteran’s pace around the 3/8-mile oval for several laps and even closed the gap late, searching every groove for an opening. But the eighth starting Gould had just enough in hand to fend off the challenge and secure his third win of the season.

Butler finished second, with early leader Tanner taking third.

Chase Martin Claims First Sport Compact Win of 2025

The Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts brought plenty of action to their 15-lap feature, but in the end it was Springtown, Texas’ Chase Martin who took care of business.

Martin set the tone early with a strong start and remained in command even after a caution slowed the field a few laps in. He was smooth on the restart and never looked back.

The race for second provided plenty of drama as 2023 National Rookie of the Year Stephen Stiteler battled past Cecil Rhodes and held off 2023 National Champion Randy Martin for the position.

Chase Martin cruised to the win, with Stiteler and Randy Martin rounding out the podium.
