Corn Bros bag Sunday cornhole tournament honors

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 5) – Cousins Damon Arehart and Jayden Arehart make up the Corn Bros duo that won Sunday’s cornhole tournament at Boone Speedway. The first champions crowned during the extended week of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s earned $1,000 for their bag-tossing efforts, defeating the Game Changers pair of Jason Michalec and Chris Blood in the 105th and final game of the Scorezit-sponsored tourney. “We are way far from professional,” said Damon, a Wayne State University graduate. “We usually play once a week, whenever we have time.” Jayden is a student at Wayne State, said their winnings would come in handy toward tuition and shared a bit of the Areharts’ cornhole success. “You’ve got to have luck on your side,” he said. Raffurty, Zehm conquer STARS Mod Lite Super Nationals qualifiers

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 4) – Dillon Raffurty started and ended his night in victory lane while Bryan Zehm ended his own night in the track where he started his racing career. Both topped STARS Mod Lite qualifying features as the division made its IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s debut during the Saturday Wild Rose Casino Prelude at Boone Speedway. Raffurty had won the first race of champions qualifying heat, then started the first qualifying feature from outside row three. Dustin Rude led the first five laps before Andrue Halpain and Clayton Hogie got together in turn three to bring the race to a complete stop. Blake Wilson took charge on the ensuing restart and had pulled away from the pack before back-to-back yellows with six circuits let in the 25-lapper. BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 4) – Tim Ward and Dallon Murty will precede the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s with Saturday night Prelude feature wins. Ward led the last 21 of 30 laps in winning the IMCA Modified feature and $1,080; Murty caught Michael Jaennette with seven circuits left in the 30-lap finale at Boone Speedway, earning $800. One hundred and thirty Modifieds and 115 Stock Cars saw Prelude action while 49 STARS Mod Lites ran race of champions heats and their first night of Super Nationals qualifying. Already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, Ward started sixth, was running second by lap seven and was half a car length ahead of Joel Bushore when lap nine was scored. Martin tops opening night RaceSaver qualifier

(Sept. 3) – The late-arriving crowd for night one of the ninth annual IMCA Racesaver Sprint Nationals Powered by Sunbelt Rentals Friday at Eagle Raceway found that once again the term ‘Biggest Sprint Car Race in the World’ was in fact true as 100 Sprint teams swelled the pits. The heavy rain that canceled the previous night’s action left the track narrow at the start and tricky as well. The “A” feature saw Ryan Hall, Mark Pace, John Paynter Jr. and Jason Martin the top four on lap one. Junior Jenkins and Ryan King went flipping in turns three and four and the red lights came on in the corners. There were several others involved, including Jay Russell and Trevor Grossenbacher, who suffered front wing damage but returned to the fray. Paynter got past Pace on the restart for second. BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 4) – Missouri speedsters Dillon Raffurty and Ed Griggs were IMCA STARS Mod Lite race of champions heat winners to kick off the Saturday Wild Rose Casino and Resort Prelude at Boone Speedway. Tonight’s entry numbers total 294 with 130 IMCA Modifieds and 115 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars both running a dozen heats at Iowa’s Action Track while 49 STARS Mod Lites run six heats in their first IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s qualifying outing. Six “B” features complete grids for Modified and Stock Car main events. Two qualifying features are on the card for the STARS Mod Lites. Complete programs for Northern SportMods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts, and qualifying and the main event for Mod Lites are on the Sunday Prelude card at Boone. New NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series opens with May 30 Sean Lias Memorial at Penn Can

SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. – The inaugural Sean Lias Memorial kicks off the new NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series this Sunday, May 30 at Penn Can Speedway. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,037 to win their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying feature, with $137 paid to start the 37-lap main event. Nearly 30 drivers from New York, Pennsylvania and Michigan have pre-registered to be part of the new series. Lap money now totaling $1,850 will be paid as well on Sunday. Bonuses of $50 will be paid to leader of laps three and seven, and $100 bonuses go to the lap 18 leader, the last place driver on lap 19 and the driver making the longest haul. Shelby County reschedules Swanson Memorial

HARLAN, Iowa – After more than a little rain fell in Harlan and much of the surrounding area, Shelby County Speedway will reschedule its inaugural Dale Swanson Memorial. What was to have been the season-opening special on Saturday night, April 10 will now be held Saturday, June 26. More information about that evening’s race program is to be announced.

King of the Highbanks rained out

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Rain and the resulting wet track conditions are officially winners of The King of the Highbanks special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Marshalltown Speedway. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA STARS Mod Lites join the Stocks on the April 16 card at Marshalltown. Driver Appreciation Night has been moved to April 23.

Thornton outruns Aikey in epic Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 12) – The seventh time was a charm as Ricky Thornton Jr. put another check on his IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s bucket list Saturday night. Making his career seventh start in the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, Thornton chased down Jeff Aikey in traffic, leading the last eight times around the track in taking a fast-paced IMCA Modified feature. The win paid $1,675. Thornton previously posted a race career best third place finish in 2016 and was already a candidate for next year’s Invitational. Nineteenth starting Jason Wolla, 16th starting Tim Ward and Ethan Dotson rounded out the top five.
