September Fest IMCA Modified wins go to Grabouski, Smith

BEATRICE, Neb. (Sept. 25-26) – Another Friday feature brought out the best in Jordan Grabouski while Dylan Smith was best in the Saturday September Fest show at Beatrice Speedway. Grabouski topped the opening night feature for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, earning his eighth win this season at Beatrice, while Smith prevailed in a Saturday show that ran green to checkered. Both Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events paid $1,500 to win. Also first on Friday at September Fest last year, Grabouski drew the pole and led all 30 laps. Hunter Marriott, Justin Zeitner, Smith and Chad Andersen rounded out the top five. “Hunter got alongside me on a couple restarts and that made it interesting,” Grabouski said. “The last caution came with about six to go and I finally got a couple car lengths on him.” Smith wasted little time in racing from fourth starting to the lead on Saturday and stuck to the lower side of the track in winning the caution-free contest. “The car was really good,” he said. “I had [Read More]

Change in plans pays off for Dahl with victory lane visit at Jamestown Stampede

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Sept. 26) – Mark Dahl hadn’t planned to race at Jamestown Speedway’s Stock Car Stampede special until seeing that his crew had unloaded and washed his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified. He was glad they did. Dahl led all 25 laps of Saturday’s main event after drawing a rare outside pole start. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory paid $2,000. “I’ve been really busy at work. I wasn’t even planning to race at Jamestown,” Dahl said. “If it hadn’t been for Arlen (Frederick) and Daryn (Schuler), I wouldn’t even have been there.” They’d made a quick stop at Performance Auto in Fargo for three off-the-shelf shocks – the price tag was still on the left front in post-race tech – before heading to Jamestown. Dahl won his Friday night heat after starting last, then stayed in front for the duration of Saturday’s main event despite numerous restarts. “It got pretty busy on the lower line so I stayed up top and it worked pretty good for me,” said Dahl, also a [Read More]

Checkers at Siskiyou’s Restad Memorial worth $4,000 to Modified winner Holland

YREKA, Calif. (Sept. 27) – It’s a good bet that Siskiyou Motor Speedway will be back on Jake Holland’s race schedule in 2016. Holland led the last 12 laps in winning Sunday’s Rod Restad Memorial. The $4,000 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory put him on the ballot for next year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “It was the first time we’d raced at Yreka,” Holland said. “I guess I’m a little biased but I like it there.” He’d started the 50-lapper from inside row two. Collen Winebarger led the first 30 circuits before giving way to Travis Peery. Holland used a restart to his advantage, using the bottom line to pass Peery and then leading to the checkers. The race was red flagged with three to go for a car that went off the backstretch. Holland crossed the stripe ahead of Peery, Monte Bischoff, Mark Wauge and John Campos. “I was patient and conserved my tires because it was a 50-lap race,” he said. “My car came to me at the end and I still [Read More]

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Sept. 26) – A first-time visitor this season and a Webster City regular both took $1,000 feature wins Saturday during Hamilton County Speedway’s Fall Challenge. J.D. Jared VanDeest, meanwhile, checked out on the rest of the field in winning the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. Making his first Hamilton County start on the next to the last night of the point season, Auringer started second and chased Adam Larson most of the 20-lapper. The first caution wiped out the big lead Larson had built up. Auringer made his move to the front with a couple circuits to go, slipping by on the lower line in the second set of turns. Larson ended in second, two car lengths back, and Mark Elliott drove from 12th starting to third. Clint Wendel and Chris Webb rounded out the top five. With five local wins already to his credit coming into the night, VanDeest closed [Read More]
