Rose tunes up for big shows with IMCA Modified win at Britt 

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 1) – Rob Rose tuned up for the upcoming specials at Hancock County Speedway by winning the Saturday feature for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. Rose made his way to the front of the 19-car field from outside row two. Runner-up was Ben Kraus and 12th starting Hunter Marriott was third. Calvin Lange earned his second local IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory of the summer, followed by Kevin Opheim and Ned Kalis. Hancock County win number five this season came for George Nordman in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Nick Meyer was second and Nate Whitehurst finished third. Cody Nielsen topped the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main in front of Cory Gansen and Chanse Hollatz. Winner of the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature was Jesse Lunsford in his first trip to Britt.

Austin Luellen picks up SportMod win number one 

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (Aug. 2) – Austin Luellen got the best of brother Clint in winning Sunday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature at Stuart Speedway. Austin took charge early while Clint advanced to second, then looked high and low but unsuccessfully for a way around. Jeff James overcame contact with the wall, regained the lead from Nick Roberts and won the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Todd Cooney took the lead on lap nine in the IMCA Late Model main and won in front of ninth starting John Emerson. Sixth starting Brian Blessington put the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature away after taking the lead on lap three. Shannon Anderson took the front spot back from Buck Schafroth in winning the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main. Top honors in the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature went to Jacob Reiter.

Ward wins again at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (July 31) – A.J. Ward notched another Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified feature win Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway. Former Dixie Modified champion Matt Szecsodi led the opening circuits of the 20-lap main event before rookie Gavin Hunyady took the front spot away and led until lap nine. Ward raced from 11th starting and led the final half of the race to cruise to another victory.  Johnny DeYoung was second and Chad Wernette took third.

Saunders scores at Oshkosh 

By Dave Panske OSHKOSH, Wis. (July 31) – Brock Saunders parlayed a restart with five laps left to win Friday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Jason Vandenberg was in front when the only caution of the night came out. The field ran three- and four-wide into the first turn and Saunders emerged from the scrum with the lead. Jon Schultz outran Jeff Schmuhl for second. Eric Scribner won for the first time at Oshkosh, getting the best of Jerry Wilinski in a back-and-forth Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified main event that went down to the final circuit. Following a late caution and five-lap sprint to the finish, Travis Van Straten won his third straight and seventh local Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Car feature of the season by holding off Joe White. Drivers inducted into the Oshkosh Walk of Fame during intermission ceremonies were Ron Van Roy, Mike Pahlow and Charlie Ewald.

Jim Marsh Classic IMCA Modified features pay $1,000 to win

TONOPAH, Nev. – Both Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified features at Tonopah Speedway’s Jim Marsh Classic will pay $1,000 to win. The Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 9 main events are qualifiers for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Pre-entry for the Modifieds is $75 or $100 at the gate. The grandstand opens at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday; on Sunday, the front gate opens at 11 a.m. and the green flag flies at noon. Pit passes are $20. Saturday night is all right for new winners at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 1) – Saturday was a night for new winners at Arlington Raceway. Mike Christensen took the lead of the Eckblad Trucking IMCA Hobby feature on the second lap from Shawn Harms and remained the leader. Mike Vogt challenged for the lead a couple times but had to settle for second. Brian Loscheider ran a solid third the entire distance. Rookie Zach Foesch won his first-ever Coors Light IMCA Sport Compact feature, leading the entire race ahead of Brock St. John. Kyren Porter took third. Tim Bergerson, who had started eighth, got around Jeremy Brown after a first lap caution in the Unhinged Pizza IMCA Northern SportMod feature and led the remaining 14 laps to win. Matt Looft worked his way to the front from his 12th place start to challenge Bergerson but there wasn’t enough time and he took second ahead of Brown. IMCA Modifieds chase $1,000 check at Thunder Hill

MAYETTA, Kan. – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified drivers race for $1,000 to win and a berth of the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot at Thunder Hill Speedway’s inaugural Conley White Memorial. The Saturday, Aug. 8 main event pays a minimum of $100 to start. IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod features both pay $300 to win. All applicable IMCA points will be awarded. There is no entry fee. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 5 p.m. The drivers’ meeting is at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and free for 12 and under. Leiting soars at Eagle 

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 1) – Mark Leiting raced all the way from 18th starting to win the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod main event Saturday at Eagle Raceway. He’d transferred from the “B” feature and took the lead after a lap eight restart. The win was his fourth this season and second in 2015 at Eagle. “My guys worked really hard getting me going after getting that axle bent,” he said. “Not transferring out of my heat and having to come through the ‘B’ meant that we had a lot of work to do, but the win makes it all worthwhile.” Trevor Grossenbacher rocketed from 14th on the initial start to win the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car main. Chad Fegley’s second straight Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature win came from 11th starting. Shane Hiatt caught long-time leader Kevin Larkins on the final set of turns for the Kaplan University IMCA Modified checkers, his fourth at Eagle this season. Winner of the time-shortened Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact main event was Jeremy Baker.

Harris notches third Virginia Sprint Series win of season

NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (Aug. 1) – Jerald Harris cruised to his third Virginia Sprint Series feature win of the season Saturday at Natural Bridge Speedway. Chris Ware and Anthony Linkenhoker were on the front for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event with Linkenhoker out first and looking strong. By lap five, however, Harris was close behind and contending for the lead. On lap seven, Harris went to the front and left Anthony to fight with Tom Humphries. Glenn Worrell got to fourth and joined the battle for second. Harris was not challenged up front. Linkenhoker worked through traffic better, got away from Hum­phries and took second. Mashl dominates Hall of Fame Night feature 

By Tom Wagner LUXEMBURG, Wis. (July 31) – Friday was Hall of Fame night at Luxemburg Speedway and perfect night for one of the track’s stars of the past to shine again. Mike Mashl, a Luxemburg Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified champion nearly two decades ago, powered away to his first feature win of the season on a night that included the induction of three new members into the Speedway’s Hall of Fame. When he ran the circuits full time, Mashl was one of the top IMCA Modified competitors in the area, with a resume that included the 1997 Luxemburg championship.  Back behind the wheel on a limited basis now, he was making only his second run at Luxemburg this season.
