MERCED, Calif. (June 20) – Ryan Porter won the 20-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modfied feature Saturday at Merced Speedway. Michael Shearer and Bob Williamson shared the front row for the feature, and Shearer set the early pace. Bill Egleston and last-starting Porter were soon in the lead battle. The third generation in his family to race at Merced, Porter soon grabbed the lead and sped home to his second win of the season. Egleston got his title hopes back on track with a second ahead of the steady Shearer. After coming as close as second this year, hard charger and two time hobby stock champion Bruce Nelson bested a 14 car Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod field for his first win of the season at Merced. Nelson had his hands full early with Jared Tickel jumping out to an early lead through a myriad of early yellows. However, Nelson made the low groove work well enough to take the lead by lap six of the 20-lap event. Mulder collects Antioch checkers

ANTIOCH, Calif. (June 20) – Paul Mulder won an exciting 20-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event Saturday at Antioch Speedway. It was his first win of the season and came ahead of IMCA national point leader Fred Ryland. Chuck Golden raced into the early lead and traded the front spot with Ron Brown following a pair of early restarts. Fred Ryland was tasked with working his way back through the field after a separate incident; Patty Ryland was briefly in the lead before getting sideways and falling to third. Golden stayed with the inside for a lap 10 restart, but he slipped back to third as Mulder and Watsonville ace Matt Hagio motored by. Fred Ryland soon made it a three-car battle up front. Mulder led through a pair of quick caution flags, the second of which negated a Hagio pass for the lead on lap 15.  Ryland managed a low pass for second on lap 19 but could only chase Mulder across the stripe. A night of firsts at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (June 20) – Two IMCA drivers racing Saturday at Off Road Speedway won an ‘A’ feature for the first time. Chad Bruns finished first in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for the first time as did Brent Jochum in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Bruns credited his front row starting position with his Stock Cars win, describing the importance of “just staying out front” as his primary strategy. However, the car next to him in the front row, driven by Kyle Prauner, was on Bruns’ bumper throughout much of the 18-lap race, suggesting that Bruns, who previously had five top five finishes, had plenty of work to do to earn his first feature win. Prauner finished in second place, ahead of Jason Wilkinson. Jochum started from the third row and was promoted into the lead with 10 laps remaining when Mark Arduser was sidelined with a flat tire. Following a caution and restart just two laps later, Jochum relinquished the lead to TeJay Mielke, but regained it with three laps [Read More]
