Schneiders tops Modified main at Raceway Park

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (April 26) – Raceway Park kicked off their 2015 IMCA Championship points season Sunday night with action in five divisions. The Total Motors IMCA Modifieds put on a show ultimately won by Jason Schneiders. Ricky Stephan jumped out front in the early laps only to be chased down by defending champion Chris Abelson. After trading the lead back and forth, the duo came together while negotiating lapped traffic with seven laps remaining, sending both to the rear on the restart. Jim Thies then took the point with Jay Noteboom and Schneiders in tow. With four to go, Schnei­ders made his move out of turn number four, slicing under Thies and using the inside line to hold Noteboom at bay to the checkers. Behind Schneiders, Noteboom, and Thies, Josh Most rounded out the top four. Dirt Works Race Cars title sponsorship covers expanded Eastern Region for IMCA Modifieds

ORONOGO, Mo. – More IMCA Modified drivers will race this season for point fund money provided by Eastern Region title sponsor Dirt Works Race Cars. The new Bay Area Emerald Coast Tour brings the division back to tracks in Alabama and Florida in 2015, while weekly sanctions continue in Michigan and New York. Points earned at the first eight Empire State Series events also figure toward regional standings. Owned by veteran driver Jerry Hoffman, Dirt Works Race Cars is a sister company to Hoffman Race Cars. The Oronogo, Mo., chassis builder is in its third season as regional title sponsor and provides a portion of the $6,000 to be paid to top 10 drivers in final point standings. Regional championships pay $2,500. The runner-up earns $1,250, with $625 for third, $325 for fourth, $300 for fifth and $200 for sixth through 10th place. Patterson makes it 3-for-3 at Tri-State

By Rob Nugent POCOLA, Okla. (April 25) – Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Tri-State Speedway saw Chris Patterson take home the winner’s money for the third time in a row. Dalton Ragsdale finished second and Kris Vaughn was third. Aaron Scroggins picked up his second feature win of the season in the IMCA SportMods while Ken McCarty and Todd Broyles rounded out the top three. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature completed the night’s racing with Casey Lindell taking home the big money over Tate Cole and Brent Holman. The May 2 program at Pocola features the eighth annual Danny Martinez Jr. Memorial plus Law Enforcement, EMTs and Firefighters night.

Record Modified car count for Electric City, Spring Roundup 

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (April 25) – A record number of Modifieds and the division’s first-ever ‘B’ feature at Electric City Speedway drew their share of headlines at Saturday’s Spring Roundup. North Dakota travelers Travis Peery and Jason Wolla ran 1-2 in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event as long tows complemented a stellar contingent of home state drivers. Twenty-seven Modifieds, the most in the 26 years the division has run at Great Falls, were on hand for the season-opening special. “There have been a lot of Modifieds around us but we were on an island. Gustin makes late pass for victory at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (Apr. 26) – Jenae Gustin used a pass in the final corner to earn top Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod honors Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. Tony Olson held the lead at the drop of the green in the 20-lapper before Clint Luellen took command following a lap five restart. Meanwhile, Gustin was working through the field from a fifth row start and settled into second just past the midway point. With Luellen navigating through slower traffic, Gustin was able to chip away at the lead in the waning laps. Running the top side throughout the event, Gustin was forced to the low groove in traffic and was able to challenge Luellen for the lead late. Gustin and Luellen went three-wide with a lapped car exiting four on the final circuit with Gustin able to inch ahead at the line to score the victory. Luellen ran second ahead of Colby Heishman. Hager repeats in IMCA Hobbies at RPM

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (April 25) – Hometown driver Garrett Hager won his second feature in a row at RPM Speedway Saturday evening. Brady Bencken led the first 11 laps of the 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock event when Robert Leonard slowed to bring out a caution. While under caution, Bencken went to the pits with a flat tire. That handed the lead over to Shay Simoneau when the green flag returned, but he was passed by Hager on the following lap. Hager held on through two more cautions to make his return appear­ance in the winner’s circle. Duane Wahrman finished in the runner-up spot. The most emotional feature win of the night went to Casey Woken. He took the lead on lap seven from Nick Tubbs and drove away for the victory in the Advantage Glass Plus IMCA Stock Car main event. Sellard doubles up at Dodge City

(April 25) – Clay Sellard doubled up by winning not only the makeup IMCA Modified feature event from April 11 but then the regularly scheduled feature as well Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. The evening began with the postponed event with Sellard racing past early leader Austin Allen on the opening round en route to his first of two wins on the night. Allen paced the opening eight rounds ahead of Joel Lane and Sellard, with Sellard racing past Lane for second on the eighth lap and then disposing of Allen for the lead the next time around. Allen battled back on the 12th round, only to have a caution negate the move. Sellard took full advantage of the reprieve, keeping has chasers at bay the rest of the way even with an unhinged hood blocking his view. Cady collects top IMCA Modified cash at Willamette

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (April 25) – Dustin Cady raced his way back to victory lane Saturday at Willamette Speedway. Bricen James had the car to beat for much of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature. The teenager ran a great race but was overtaken by a late-race pass. Fellow Albany driver Cady made a banzai move on lap 23 to propel his mount into the lead. Cady stayed out in front the rest of the way and parked his number 7 GRT in the winner’s cir­cle. It was the second straight victory for the team at Willamette as Cady was the winner of the last IMCA Modified event at the historic 1/3-mile clay oval. B.J. Wild was second and James ended in third.

Huls, Gower, Abbott score wins at Quincy

By Jack Walbring QUINCY, Ill. (April 26) – Abe Huls, Joey Gower and Kimberly Abbott all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceway during the second night of the 2015 race season on Sunday. Huls held off several challengers to take the feature win in the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car main event. Jake Powers settled for second followed by Jerry Jansen. Nineteen Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMods signed in to do battle with Gower coming from his third row starting spot to take the checkers. Gower held back Tony Dunker in second and Bobby Anders in third. Abbott charged to the front of the Mach-1 Sport Compact main event from her fourth row starting spot in just five laps and pulled away for the feature win over Sieth Woodruff in second and Bran­don Lambert in third.

Sprint Series of Nebraska opener goes to Grossenbacher

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (April 24) – The main event distance was just right as far as Trevor Grossenbacher was concerned Friday night at Eagle Raceway. The Sprint Series of Nebraska opener ran green to checkered with Grossenbacher going up in a huge cloud of steam as his radiator hose blew coming out of turn four on the final lap. He limped to the Rumble in The Bullring win with Jake Bubak second, Clint Benson third and Adam Gullion fourth. “I love winning in any kind of car and I plan on being here quite a bit this year.
