Strong restarts send Shute to winner’s circle at Marshalltown Frostbuster

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 3) – A pair of strong restarts midway through Friday’s Frostbuster feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds helped send Todd Shute to the winner’s circle at Marshalltown Speedway. Shute took advantage of his front row start for the 25-lapper and pulled away from the rest of the field before cautions on laps 13 and 15. He got great restarts both times and went on to lead the remaining laps to take the $1,000 win. Adam Larson finished second, Mike Mullen was third, Luke Wanninger was fourth and Jason Wolla was fifth. Shute was already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. A total of 207 cars from 11 states and Canada were signed in for the third installment of Frost­buster Week. Randy Brands was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner. IMCA national champions new to Champ Pans awards program 

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Awards for national champions in five divisions are new in Champ Pans’ IMCA partnership program for 2015. The Eau Claire, Wis., manufacturer will give $50 product certificates to top 10 place finishers in final national standings for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods. Thunderhill Raceway postpones practice 

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. – Track officials at Thunderhill Raceway have decided to postpone the open practice originally scheduled for Saturday, April 4. The open session has been moved to Saturday April 18. A start time has yet to be determined. “We put the practice on our schedule just in case things warmed up early. That way we had two options,” explained Promoter Woody Wodack.“With last week being cold, windy and sometimes sleeting, we weren’t able to prep things like we wanted. It’s all about keeping our track great and with the forecast looking promising, we’ll be good to go on the 18th.” With cars racing in Iowa and at Seymour Speedway on Saturday afternoon, Wodack added that “it just made sense to push everything till after the R.A.C.E. Car Show and benefit that takes place on April 11.” The first point night for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks is Saturday, April 25 and will be sponsored by WDOR.

Bob Harris Enterprises awards go to IMCA  Modified, SportMod special events drivers 

AMES, Iowa – Bob Harris Enterprises marks its fifth year of IMCA sponsorship along with its first full season in its new Ames facility in 2015. One top 10 finisher at each of 30 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified specials and at a dozen Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod specials receives two free shock rebuilds from Harris. A drawing will be held following the regular point season to award Race Tech Info Dirt Chassis School packages to a driver in each division. Drawing winners last year were Travis Hagen and Ethan Dotson. Certificates for the shock rebuilds will be mailed within a week after special events results are received at the IMCA home office. Wisconsin’s Dodge County sanctions IMCA Modifieds, Northern SportMods 

BEAVER DAM, Wis. – One IMCA division returns and another is new this season at Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway. Both IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are on 11 Sunday night programs on the 1/2-mile clay oval. “The Modified drivers around here are a pretty strong group of guys. They like going fast,” said promoter Brian Gerber. “The Northern SportMods have an amazing car count. We’re going to have two very strong classes.” “I like the uniformity of the IMCA rules. Everything is there in black and white,” continued Gerber, a former Modified driver and later Modified tech inspector at Dodge County. “With IMCA, you’ve got a set of rules that everyone is familiar with.” Opening night is May 24. Purse increased for Budweiser-sponsored IMCA Modifieds at Sunset Speedway Park

Edge to Cordes in Benton County Frostbuster

VINTON, Iowa (April 2) – The finish to Thursday’s Frostbuster feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Benton County Speedway was so close Troy Cordes didn’t know for sure he was the winner until he heard it over his one-way radio. Cordes led most of the 25-lapper after passing Todd Shute following an early restart. He couldn’t find a way around two cars at the back of the field, however, and both Shute and Hunter Marriott caught up in a hurry. Shute was scored just ahead on lap 22 but Cordes was back in front the next time around. He’d take the checkers not much more than the width of his bumper ahead of Shute, with Marriott right behind. “It got a little hairy,” Cordes said following the $1,000 victory, which came in front of a large and appreciative crowd. “I’ve won races this close before and I’ve lost them this close before. Holley awards renewed for five IMCA divisions, Deery Series

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (April 2) – Holley Performance recognizes the achievements of drivers in five divisions, in its 17th season as a marketing partner with IMCA. Top eligible drivers in each of the five IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified regions receive 750 cfm gas or al­cohol HP carburetors from the Bowling Green, Ky., manufacturer. Prod­uct certificates for $350, $250, $100 and $100 go to the next four drivers. Both the national IMCA Late Model rookie of the year and the Deery Brothers Summer Series rookie of the year get 4150 series gas carburetors.
