DeBaere denies Bruns Memorial challengers

SLAYTON, Minn. (July 18) – Round two of the Dominick Bruns Memorial Challenge Cup Chase Friday at Slayton went to Murray County Speedway regular Kevin DeBaere. DeBaere led all 18 laps after starting the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature outside Shaun Madden on the front row. The victory, DeBaere’s second this season at Slayton, paid $1,000. Derek Green, Chris Palsrok, Elijah Zevenbergen and Dan Veenstra rounded out the top five. Runner-up in the series last season, DeBaere had Derek Green on his back bumper most of the way. Restarts following cautions near midway, then with four laps to go and finally with three laps left didn’t make his job any easier. “It felt good to win this race, DeBaere said. “The bottom line was the line that was working so that’s where you had to be.” The Chase, which raises awareness about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, concludes Aug. 10 at Redwood Speedway. Stephenville Starter starts new role as title sponsor of Hobby Stock Race of Champions

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Stephenville Starter has a new role this September on dirt track racing’s biggest stage. The Stephenville, Texas, manufacturer is the new title sponsor of the Hobby Stock Race of Champions, to be held Sept. 6 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway. Ten drivers qualify for that race. Stephenville Starter provides a portion of the purse. This is the sixth year Stephenville Starter has been a marketing partner with IMCA. Cottage Grove reschedules Wild West Modified Series to Thursday

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 23) – The races for Wednesday, July 23rd at Cottage Grove Speedway have been canceled due to weather. A storm that recently came through soaked the pit area as well as the race track which prevented any action taking place. However, the race has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 24 and will consist of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and hornets. The Wild West Modified Series feature pays $1,000 to win. Front gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Format is familiar, fine tuning continues for Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa (July 23) – Much of the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will transpire in a format already familiar to drivers, fans in the grandstand and XSAN viewers around the world. You’ll have to be at Boone Speedway from Sept. 1-6 for the 32nd annual version of America’s Racin’ Vacation to see some of what’s different, however. “There is always a need to fine tune but the format and XSAN coverage will be very similar to last year’s Super Nationals,” IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. “XSAN is doing some very exciting things to extend the reach of the event.” Nearly 300 drivers from 21 states and Canada have already pre-entered and/or submitted pit stall applications. Great Basin dates next for EQ Wild West Tour

ELY, Nev. (July 23) – Great Basin Raceway is the next destination for the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour. Traveling IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $1,000 to win in their Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 features at Ely. Both events are qualifiers for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded each night. Pit gates will be open all day; the grandstand opens and hot laps start at 5 p.m. Racing begins at 6:30 p.m. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, $8 for kids 12 and under and free for youngsters five and under. Willamette gears up for weekend shows

LEBANON, Ore. – This Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26, Willamette Speedway hosts some of the best racing around. Both evenings will feature IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds as they wrap up the Wild West Modified Speedweek and the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series. The IMCA Modified race on Saturday will be the best paying to win all week as the main event winner earns a cool $2,000. Other contingencies are in the works also and will be announced soon. Big Wheels races Friday at Luxemburg

The annual Kids’ Big Wheel races take place at intermission on July 25 with the first 50 kids getting medals from Gnome Games. Jared Siefert was the last IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver in victory lane in a classic finish. He beat Jason Czarapata but Czarapata remains the leader of the pack with a 15 point advantage over James Tebon. Brandon Czarapata continued in his winning ways in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. Abelson ends incredible week at Raceway Park

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (July 20) – Chris Abelson capped an incredible week with his victory in the Jebro Inc. IMCA Modified division Sunday at Raceway Park. After picking up IMCA wins Wednesday at Buena Vista Raceway, Thursday in the Harris Clash at Knoxville Raceway and Friday at Crawford County Speedway, Abelson closed out the week by taking Sunday’s feature win over Sean Barrigan and Matt Bonine. Abelson had moved into the lead of the national points race following his win at Knoxville. (July 20) – Lightning up the night Sunday with stellar efforts at Dawson County Raceway were IMCA hotshoes Colton Osborn, Brandon Clough, Casey Werkmeister and Kyle Bond. Grabbing the lead at halfway, Osborn powered his way to the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory. Osborn snared the lead on the 11th circuit and never looked back after starting in the fifth row. Breaking through in the Karl Chevrolet Northern Sport Modifieds with his first feature win of 2014 at Dawson County was Clough. He has been a mainstay inside the top five and flirted with winning but it was his night this time around as he scored the win from his front row starting position. Telecky rules Hobby Stocks at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 19) – Josh Telecky led every lap in winning his first IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature of the season Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Telecky was taking full advantage of his pole position start but on the second lap, Kevin LaTour rolled his car on the front stretch. Following the restart, Telecky resumed control and held off eventual runner-up Dakota Robinson the remaining laps. A rough and tumble 95.7 IMCA Sprint car feature saw Brett Allen make contact with Aaron Wisch, resulting in a violent flip by both cars. Both drivers were OK but out of the race. When the race resumed, Dustin Sargent led the first nine laps but Bruce Allen was on his tail. The veteran had moved through the pack and got by Sargent to take the lead and win his first feature of the year. Curt Lund started 10th and won the MN 93 IMCA Modified main event.
