Deery Bros Late Model Summer Series

Ryan gets best of Deery challengers at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Aug. 16) – If he’d had a rear view mirror, Matt Ryan would have been able to watch the race that played out behind him in Tuesday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at Dubuque Speedway. Ryan led all but the first of 50 laps in winning the IMCA Late Model tour feature and $2,400. The Deery checkers were his career second. “Normally when I go to Dubuque I’m a guardrail guy but the car was good on the top side in my heat race,” said Ryan, who’d won the Slocum Memorial Deery in April of 2011. “I thought if I’m starting second that I’d stay there. My goal was to stay on the cushion but keep it out of the fence.” He left the top side just long enough to pass pole starter Dan Shelliam, then stayed in front to the checkers. Point leader Tyler Bruening ended a couple car lengths off the pace in second to add a little more breathing room in his battle for the series championship with fifth-finishing [Read More]

By Ryan Clark BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 14) – One night after an unexpected early exit during the Night of 1,000 Stars, Hunter Marriott stood in victory lane following the Night of 10,000 Stars at Hancock County Speedway. Marriott, who was sidelined late in Saturday’s 50-lapper after contact while battling for the lead, outran Ryan Ruter to earn the win Sunday night, his third of the week as part of Iowa Modified Speedweek. The main event was split into two 25-lap segments, which were separated by a 10-minute pit stop on the front stretch. Cody Laney drove into the lead at the onset and led the entirety of the first segment. From the middle of row one of the three-wide starting formation, Laney was pressured constantly by Marriott, who held the runner-up spot throughout the first 25 laps. Gustin leads late, takes Night of 1,000 Stars checkers

By Ryan Clark BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 13) – An 83 minute rain delay was the first of many unexpected twists during the Night of 1,000 Stars at Hancock County Speedway. What seemed like a guaranteed payday for Ryan Ruter ended with a pair of broken rear axles in the 50-lap feature event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. That allowed Richie Gustin to steal the spotlight late as he drove to his first win in the annual event. Ruter took the lead from Corey Dripps on the sixth circuit and then built a straightaway lead when the mandatory caution slowed action on lap 25. After the 10 minute stop for drivers and crews to make adjustments to their cars on the front stretch, Ruter picked up where he left off when racing resumed. Ruter’s advantage was nearly half a lap when misfortune struck and he slowed to a stop on the front stretch with 43 laps complete. Benji LaCrosse, who had battled Hunter Marriott through much of the second half of the event, assumed the [Read More]
