Pattee’s first win comes at Independence’s 500th IMCA Modified main

By Bucky Doren INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 6) – It was a double milestone night Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway. On the night the track celebrated its 500th IMCA Modified feature event, driver Tysus Pattee scored his first career win in that division. Despite his front row starting spot, Pattee had to work hard for his first career win. Three late caution flags tightened the field behind him. Jenae Gustin, who also scored her first two career IMCA Modified wins at Indee, and Ronn Lauritzen tried to keep pace on those three restarts, but Pattee was able to pull away for the historic win. Gustin settled for second. Lauritzen drove from the 11th place starting spot to finish third. Ryan Maitland finished fourth and Vern Jackson rounded out the top five. Pattee’s win paid $500 plus a $100 bonus. Tom Schmitt pulled into Budweiser Victory Lane and landed a $500 payday, courtesy of Local Vizion, for his win in the Burco Sales IMCA Stock Car A-Main win. Osborn, Gottschalk among Lexington winners

LEXINGTON, Neb. (Aug. 7) – With limited time remaining in the regular season, every point matters that much more and the fierce competition showcased at Lexington Raceway on Sunday evening was evident of the neck-and-neck battles throughout the evening on the Dawson County Fairgrounds. Leading from the onset and never looking back was Colton Osborn as he put on a dominating performance to win the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Osborn piloted his hot rod to the lead on the first lap and led all 20 laps of the feature event. The laps that matter the most were led by Daniel Gottschalk in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Gottschalk led the final two laps to earn the feature victory. Battling against a dry-slick track that had been used and abused for five feature events, Mike Nichols was able to garner the lead for the final six laps to claim the checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Williamson wins on fan appreciation night at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Aug. 6) – Despite power problems in the southern Willamette Valley for much of the day due to a local aviation accident, it was fully restored just in time so that all of the racing would be completed for Fan Appreciation Night at Cottage Grove Speedway. The Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified finale was an incredible race as Grey Ferrando had the race of his life. Ferrando got out in front on the opening start and was the car to beat for much of the feature until Jesse Williamson brought pressure. Coming to the white flag Williamson edged out Ferrando, but Ferrando took the spot back out of turn two. When the two cars exited the fourth and final turn it was Williamson collecting his third local win of the season. Grey Ferrando got sideways on the front stretch and got together with Mark Wauge. Wauge edged out Ferrando for second. Collen Winebarger was fourth followed by Steven Sturdevant. In the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Willy McFall showed the way. Kay stands tallest twice at LaSalle’s One Night Stand

LASALLE, Ill. (Aug. 6) – One driver stood above the rest twice at LaSalle Speedway’s One Night Stand. Justin Kay topped both the $3,000 to win IMCA Late Model feature and the $2,000 to win Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event Saturday night. While he’d been to the Illinois oval twice before as a spectator, his weekend visit to LaSalle was Kay’s competitive first. He led all but the first of 40 Late Model circuits and all 30 Modified laps. Tyler Soppe was the $2,000 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod winner. More than 120 IMCA cars were entered in the second annual special. “I’ve won weekly shows in both cars,” said Kay, who started the Late Model feature outside Matt Ryan on the front row, “but it was pretty neat to win both times at a special with that many cars there.” Only one caution slowed Kay’s march to the Late Model checkers. He had the race well in hand and was working his way through lapped traffic before the lap 28 yellow flew. “The [Read More]

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (Aug. 6) – The time for making a move in the points standings at Off Road Speedway is running out as just three nights of racing remain before Championship Night on Sept. 3. Not surprisingly, among the top finishers during Saturday night’s features were several names found toward the top of those division standings. In the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature, for example, the top three places went to drivers who happen to be listed first, second, and third in the standings … Lance Mielke, Shannon Pospisil and Brooke Fluckiger, respectively … and within 10 total points of each other. Mielke picked up a critical second win of the season at Off Road Speedway among 11 top five finishes in 12 races. Pospisil and Fluckiger each added a ninth top five finish to their 12-race total. LaCrosse leads to checkered flag at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. (Aug. 5) – Benji LaCrosse has mastered the art of winning the Kim Parsons Memorial Races in 2016.  He added another Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win to his credit after starting 11th at Luxemburg Speedway. Brandon Long led the opening laps before Greg Gretz showed the way starting on lap three.  A caution on lap 12 brought R.M. Van Pay and LaCrosse to the bumper of the leader. LaCrosse, who seemed to have forward bite wherever he put his racer, moved low and made a bid for the lead. Gretz fought him off once but LaCrosse went high and cruised.  LaCrosse went high and grabbed the lead with four laps remaining where he fought off a late-race caution. Gretz finished second in front of Van Pay. Shawn Kilgore made late-race moves to finish fourth.  Jerry Muenster ran a stellar race to fifth. Paul Diefenthaler and Derek Moede went a few rounds to start the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature.  Moede won the first round and the middle rounds over [Read More]

Cooney scores IMCA Late Model win at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 5) – After more than four inches of rain on Thursday evening, and the infield a muddy bog with a pond that the Canada geese enjoyed earlier, Marshalltown Speedway still pulled off a full night of racing Friday. A full pit of 116 cars, that included the IMCA Late Models in their first of five consecutive weekly appearances, put on a great night of exciting racing action for the fans. The 25-lap Late Model feature did not start well when the front row of Ben Seemann and John Emerson got together just after the race went green. This relegated them to the tail for the restart. When things got back underway, it was hometown driver Darrel DeFrance grabbing the lead. By lap three, Todd Cooney had moved from his sixth row starting position, to tag on to DeFrance’s tail. DeFrance held him off for a few more laps until Cooney’s move out of turn four put him into the lead as they crossed the finish line at lap seven. Cooney then hummed along on the [Read More]
