Kansas Thunder Series moves to Norton 

By Mike Hughes NORTON, Kan. (July 30-31) –The Kansas Thunder Series moved to Elmwood Park Speedway in Norton on Saturday & Sunday, July 30-31, during the Norton County Fair. Mike Petersilie led all 15 laps in Saturday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Tyler Frye and Clay Money chased Petersilie most of the race but had to settle for second and third, respectively. Kyle Pfeifer led the opening lap of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature before Dustin McClurg took the lead. That was short-lived however as Casey Woken took command on lap four. On lap 12, Chad Sterling powered to the lead and charged to the checkers. McClurg finished in the runner-up spot, trailed by Jason Davis. Garrett Hager took the lead on lap five from Travis Coop and went on to win the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Jeromy Wagner finished second, followed by Shay Simoneau. Three straight for Holladay at West Liberty 

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (July 30) – Saturday night’s action at West Liberty Raceway included a full program of IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing with the iWireless IMCA Late Models headlining the program. The main event took the green with Kyle Hinrichs taking the lead early and appearing to be on his way to the win. The 25-lapper went caution-free to the checkers as Chad Holladay chased down Hinrichs and made the winning pass on lap 21 on his way to his third consecutive West Liberty win. Kevin Kile made a late race pass of Hinrichs to take second. The Performance Concepts IMCA Modified feature belonged to veteran Brad Dubil. Dubil took the lead at the drop of the green and went on to lead all 20 laps in scoring his first win in several years at the West Liberty ½-mile. Blurton scores convincing URSS win at Ernie DeCroce Memorial 

BYERS, Colo. (July 30) – Twenty-four United Rebel Sprint Series teams from Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado made the trek to Colorado Motor Sports Park for the first annual Ernie DeCroce Memorial and when the checkered flag fell it was Zach Blurton picking up his second national point win of the 2016 campaign. Blurton had used a lap seven restart in moving up to second and was starting to reel in leader Austin Mclean as lapped traffic started to come into play. Blurton finally used the high side to take the point on lap 17. Jed Werner and then Luke Cranston also made their way forward to second and third, respectively. The red flag flew on lap twenty when Cris Muhler came into contact with and infield tire and got upside down to end his night. Yarie triumphant with last-corner pass

(July 30) – Marcus Yarie made a last-lap, last-corner pass on Kevin Feck for his seventh local Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win of the season Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Tony Wedelstadt took the lead on the opening lap and quickly began to pull away from the rest of the field. Feck moved to second, trying to keep pace while Yarie joined the top three on lap three. Wedelstadt had already built up a sizable lead as Feck and Yarie separated themselves from the rest of the field as well. On lap 10, Wedelstadt caught the tail of the field, slowing his pace a bit. Feck and Yarie began to quickly reel in the leader. On lap thirteen Wedelstadt, Feck, and Yarie were nose to tail racing for the lead. Feck then went to the outside of Wedelstadt to take the lead on lap 14. As the field reached the back straight, Wedelstadt made contact with Cole Petit ending the night for both of them and bringing out a caution with six laps left. Luinenburg rules at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 30) – Defending national champion Justin Luinenburg showed the way to the finish line in Saturday’s Premier Logistics IMCA Hobby Stock feature at Arlington Raceway. Twenty-two cars comprised the starting field. At the drop of the green flag unlucky 13th starting Ben Peterson got sideways and hit the front wall, then got air and rode the wall until it ended and landed sideways. His car was in tough shape as he departed on the hook. When the race was restarted, Corey Schultz took the lead ahead of Shawn Harms. Luinenburg, who started 10th, used a restart to his advantage and dove in front of Schultz to take the lead and remain in front the next five laps to win the race. Schultz held onto second as Corey Probst took third ahead of Shawn Harms. Tyler Limoges topped the MN93 IMCA Modifieds and Trevor Serbus scored the 95.7 The Rock IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car checkers. Off Road Speedway returns to action

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars set the tone for the evening as four cars battled for the lead for more than half of the 16-lap feature before Chad Bruns and Shawn Primrose finally pulled away from the pack. Bruns, currently ranked 10th on the IMCA national points list, got the win with Prim­rose finishing second and Tanner Pettitt taking third. With 10 laps remaining in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature, Kyle Prauner had moved through traffic from the middle of the 17-car field to take the lead away from Matt Haase. Prauner, ranked seventh in national points, then pulled away for the win ahead of Derik Fox, who edged Haase for third. Saathoffs celebrate Eagle IMCA Modified success

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 30) – Team Saathoff had two wins to celebrate Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Johnny Saathoff topped the Kaplan University IMCA Modified feature while son Jaxon won his ‘B’ and ran 13th in the main event. “I gave Jaxon the car I’ve been driving all year and made a couple of changes. I‘m using a new car with an open motor,” said Saathoff, a four-time national IMCA champion. “This is my 37th year racing. Jaxon won at 14 – at 14 I was cleaning up and fixing the bleachers here at Eagle and he’s rac­ing here at the same age.” Lance Borgman raced from 17th starting to win the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod feature. Thornton at head of the class at Canyon

(July 30) – Ricky Thornton Jr. took Saturday night’s headline win at Canyon Speed­way Park by racing to victory lane in the Allscapes Back to School special atop the 1/3-mile clay oval. Thornton made a return to the desert and denied Jason Noll a third consecutive win in Arizona Differential IMCA Modified action by topping the 20-lap feature. He rallied from 11th to capture his first Canyon score since topping February’s Desert Classic with Noll setting for runner-up honors from seventh.  Joey Moriarty was third with Chaz Baca, Jr. charg­ing from 18th to fourth and Mike Strobl rounding out the top five.

Ray collects Cottage Grove checkers 

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 30) – Daniel Ray raced to his first local Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod checkers Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway. Ray led from lap six to the checkers. Bobby McHargue finished an impressive second and Andrew Mathers was third.  Brandon Letsom ended the night fourth and fifth was Chris Frisbie.

Win number four for Braaten at Southern Oregon

(July 30) – Taking the lead early on from David Marble, Jorddon Braaten went on to win his fourth Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event of the season Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway. Mike Medel made a charge from 11th starting to finish second. The rookie Marble got his night started with a win ahead of Braaten in the trophy dash, then raced into the lead at the start of the feature as Tony Bartell settled into second. Braaten made a low pass to take second from Bartell. Jimmy Lipke took over third a lap later. Braaten pursued Marble closely until making the pass in turn four of the sixth lap to take the lead.  Lipke followed closely into second. Medel made a low pass on the 10th lap to take fifth from Doug Franklin.  However, the two made contact with Medel spinning for a yellow flag.
