Flander takes first win Friday at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 22) – Eric Flander made his first visit to victory lane at Marshalltown Speedway this season following Friday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Ryan King led the troops through the first handful of circuits in the 18-lapper but Curt Hilmer made his high line run pay off, taking over at lap six. When a yellow flew at lap 10 for visiting Australian racer Frank Packer, Hilmer still held the lead but had Sam Wieben in second to contend with. Flander was running third and when the race returned to green, got the drop on Wieben and raced up to challenge Hilmer. The two ran side-by-side for several laps until Flander was able to make the pass at lap 15. He then put a comfortable distance between himself and the pack fighting behind, and swept home to the win. It was a real battle for position behind the winner but Wieben prevailed for the runner-up spot. Third went to 16th place starter Jared VanDeest, Hilmer took fourth and Ethan Braaksma completed the top five. Flander had started 12th [Read More]

Ward wins again at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (July 22) – A.J. Ward made another visit to victory lane following the Friday night Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified main event at Tri-City Motor Speedway. The father and son duo of Rusty Zeigler and Ken Zeigler, each of who won their respective heat races earlier in the evening, started on the front row for the 20-lap feature. Rusty Zeigler led the first three laps until Matt Szecsodi made his way by. Szecsodi was well in front of the field when the caution flag waved on lap 12. This allowed Ward, who had fought his way from 10th starting to second, to line up on Szecsodi’s rear bumper on the restart. Ward made what proved to be the winning pass on lap 14 and cruised to the checkered flag.  Szecsodi finished second ahead of Todd Matheson, Heath Grizzle and Ken Zeigler.

Hollatz wins IMCA Hobby Stock special at Algona

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 21) – It was hard not to see the smile on the face of Chanse Hollatz after winning the Water Connection IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock special Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway in Algona. Hollatz picked a great time to earn his first feature win at the oval since May 5, coming from outside of row two to accomplish the feat. Hollatz grabbed the lead immediately in the race and saw the caution flag fly on lap number when Jacob Kofoot touched the wall. The ugly yellow flag returned two laps later when Gary Pesicka spun out coming out of turn two. But only four lapped cars with six laps to go in the race, slowed down Hollatz’s trip into victory lane as he topped the 24-car field to take the first place prize money. Shannon Anderson finished second followed by Cody Nielsen, Brandon Nielsen and Jeff Anderson. The stock car also had big money on the line as the feature winner took home $1,000 on the warm, humid evening [Read More]
