Marriott checks out on Modified foes in Cheesehead feature at Oshkosh

By Dave Panske OSHKOSH, Wis. (June 24) – Once Hunter Marriott took the green, the battle was for second Friday at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Marriott checked out on the rest of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds in topping the $5,000 to win main event at The Battle at the Zone, the second leg of the Cheesehead Triple Crown. Seventy-four Modifieds vied and total car count for the night was a whopping 163. Steve Schneider and Marriott sat on the front row and Marriott grabbed the lead at the start and immediately started to open a lead on the field. Kelly Shyrock pulled behind Schneider in third with Brian Mullen, Thursday night Clash at the Creek winner, Benji LaCrosse and Brian Drexler behind. The race was fast and clean with Marriott increasing his lead and plenty of tight racing behind. What proved to be the lone caution appeared on lap 25 and bunched the field on Marriott. Pickett prevails in Boone Stock Car feature

BOONE, Iowa (June 25) – Saturday’s racing at the Boone Speedway saw three drivers stepping into victory lane for the first time, while another returned for the third and fourth time. Tyler Pickett finally got the elusive win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division and Daniel Tasler won for the first time this season in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, as did Chad LeGere in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. It took only four laps before eighth place starter Pickett gained the lead in a Stock Car feature that ran green to checkered. Pickett never relinquished that top spot, keeping it to the flying checkers and the win. Jay Schmidt out fought Donavon Smith as they went second and third, respectively. Tasler started on the pole of the 18-lap Northern SportMod event and led all laps on the way to the win. Chad Ryerson chased Tasler for most of the race to take the runner-up spot. Holladay powers to West Liberty win

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (June 25) –The iWireless IMCA Late Model 25-lapper capped off the night’s racing action Saturday at West Liberty Raceway and Chad Holladay scored his third win of the season on a very high-speed track. The high humidity made for a heavy, fast track and the Shepherd Engine-powered Late Model of Holladay found the conditions to his liking as he took command early from race leader Ron Boyse and went on to score an impressive win. Andy Eckrich made a late race run to finish second ahead of Boyse. The Performance Concepts IMCA Modifieds continue to thrill the West Liberty Raceway fans with great racing and Saturday night’s main event was another nail biter. Jerry Luloff came away the winner breaking a two-year winless drought at West Liberty. The win was a very hard-fought one as Luloff had to fight off eventual second place finisher Chris Zogg and a fast closing Bruce Hanford at the finish line. Winebarger is fastest on Fast Friday

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 24) – Collen Winebarger was fastest on the second Fast Friday of the season at Cottage Grove Speedway. Nearly 30 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds were checked in and Brian Thompson showed the way early. Thompson blazed the trail in the first handful of laps but was never able to get out to a large lead due to several cautions. Shortly after a sixth lap restart Thompson was overtaken by Winebarger, who maintained the top position for much of the race despite ensuing cautions. Winebarger was briefly out of the lead on lap 23 only for the yellow to come back out before the lap was complete. Winebarger stayed in front after the final restart and held on to win his second race at Cottage Grove in 2016. Mark Wauge was a close second, followed by Curtis Towns, Braedon Hand and Eric Ashley. Wauge set fast time for the night and also won the trophy dash.

Gustin scores career first, Smock win $1K at Independence

By Bucky Doren INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 25) – Jenae Gustin scored her first career IMCA Modified feature win Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway while Travis Smock netted a $1,000 IMCA Late Model payday on Peoples Company Night. Brandon Maitland moved into the lead on lap two of the Performance Bodies Modified “A” main. The young gun protected the bottom once he assumed the lead. The rookie Gustin worked her way into second completing lap number five. After running a handful of laps trying to find a way underneath Maitland, she moved to the high line. Gustin worked into the lead by the halfway point, and she was able to drive off to her first ever IMCA Modified win. Maitland settled for second. His brother Ryan finished third. Ronn Lauritzen came from 17th starting to fourth, followed by J.D. Auringer. “I think Independence (Motor Speedway) and Marshalltown (Speedway) has the toughest competition in the state,” Gustin said from victory lane, “so to win our first here means a lot. Murray captures IMCA Modified victory at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 24) – Jacob Murray captured his third win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds while Donavon Smith picked up another victory in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars Friday at Marshalltoewn Speedway. Joey Schaefer won for the first time in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division and Eric Stanton got back on track, winning the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Murray started ninth in the Modified feature. He put his no. 48J ride to the topside and reeled in the front running cars quickly. When a yellow flew at lap four, Murray was already sitting in third place behind Jake Strayer and leader Jenae Gustin. When the race restarted, Murray put it to the top again, and passed both Strayer and Gustin and was scored the leader at lap five. Opheim tops thriller at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 23) – One thing is for sure when fans come to Kossuth County Speedway: They know the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars will put on an entertaining show. Thursday night was no exception as Kevin Opheim and Derek Green went door-to-door and back-and-forth before Opheim edged out Green for his first local win of the season. Green captured hard charger honors while Calvin Lange, Shane Curry and Kellie Schmit completed the top five. Josh Ruby was another first time winner in Algona, in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event, while Shane Swanson collected his first local Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod trophy of the season. Cody Nielsen has been dominant in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and captured his third feature win of the summer at Kossuth County, coming from outside row four. Kaytee DeVries won the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature, earning her second feature victory of the season at Algona.

Seventh annual IMCA Sheen Memorial is July 2-3 at Cardinal Speedway

EUNICE, N.M. – Four IMCA divisions are featured at Cardinal Speedway’s seventh annual Kelly Sheen Memorial Shootout Saturday and Sunday, July 2-3. Qualifying begins on Saturday. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center SportMods all run Sunday for $1,100 to win while IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks vie for a top check of $500. The Modified feature is a 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. All IMCA feature winners receive a 55-gallon drum of fuel in addition to their cash winnings and fireworks follow the Sunday show. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded to Modified, Stock Car and Hobby Stock drivers; Southern SportMod drivers race for national and state points. Potential $2,000 top prize at Hancock County’s IMCA Hobby Stock special

BRITT, Iowa – The winner of Hancock County Speedway’s inaugural IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock special earns at least $1,000 and as much as $2,000. The Saturday, July 2 main event at Britt pays a guaranteed $1,000 to win with $500 bonuses if that driver has perfect attendance and has won a previous feature at Hancock County this season. Second place pays $750, with $500 for third. Start money is $100 and tow is $50. Entry fee, if paid by June 24, is $30. Also on the evening’s race program are Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Toland, Morris, Olson win Mid-Season championship features at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 24) – As Davenport Speedway readies for next week’s Iowa Governor’s Cup, there was still one more night of point racing action to get in the books. Friday was Mid-Season Night. Rob Toland stretched out his point lead in the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model class. Toland started on the outside pole and led all 25 laps. Andy Nezworski came from ninth starting and used the low groove to finish second. Matt Ryan took third, finishing ahead of Kevin Kile and Chuck Hanna. Mitch Morris came from mid-pack to win the Eriksen’s IMCA Modified main. Ray Cox Jr. jumped out to the early lead and was able to hold the advantage for the first 14 laps. On lap 15, Morris forced his way under Cox to take the lead and his third point win of the season at Davenport. Cox held on to take second, with Doug Crampton third.
