Atchison checkers fly for Brown, Powell

By Rick Staley ATCHISON, Kan. (June 24) – Derrick Brown and Jim Powell Jr. were winners of IMCA features that ran green to checkered Friday at Atchison County Raceway. Brown picked up his second local feature win of the season, leading every lap of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main. Steven Bowers Jr. raced through the pack to challenge Brown late, coming up with a close second place finish. Tony Layne, Jeremy Chambers and Nicholas Carpenter rounded out the top five. Greg Keuhn had the early lead until Jim Powell Jr. charged through the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field en route to his third Atchison County victory of 2016. Brad Whitney held off Gene Stigall for third and fifth place belonged to Josh Steele. IMCA Stock Cars were crowned “Best in Show” with the 10th finishing position being drawn and the added $100 cash awarded to Todd Wilson.

Penske Racing Shocks giving awards to IMCA Modified, Stock, Late Model drivers

READING, Pa. – For a fourth consecutive season, Penske Racing Shocks gives contingency awards to drivers in three IMCA divisions. Product certificates from the Reading, Pa., manufacturer worth $350, $250 and $150, respectively, go to top three eligible finishers in each of the five regions for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and in both IMCA Sunoco Stock Car regions. Certificates in the same increments will be awarded to eighth, ninth and 10th place finishers in national standings for IMCA Late Models. Awards will be presented during the national IMCA banquet in November or mailed beginning the following week from the home office. $1,500 is top check at Luxemburg IMCA Stock Car special

LUXEMBURG, Wis. – The winner takes home $1,500 from Luxemburg Speedway’s Friday, July 1 special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. The event is sponsored by Quietwoods RV Sales and Service. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region and Allstar Performance State, but not local track points will be awarded. Entry fee is $20. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, vying for all applicable points, complete the evening card. Pit gates open at 4:45 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:40 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for teens ages 13-17 and free for kids 12 and under. Halfway to Dodge City titles … chase continues Saturday night

(June 23) – This Saturday’s H&H Roofing Night at Dodge City Raceway Park marks the halfway point of the 2016 season at the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas. IMCA hotshoes Nick Link, Kevin Tabor, Michael Pepper and Cody Davis are in the driver’s seat for 2016 track championships, but there is still plenty of time for major changes to take place. Murray races back to front, then to victory lane at Wild West Challenge

By Kelly Ninas NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (June 21) – After finding his way back to the front, David Murray Jr. found his way to victory lane Tuesday at Lincoln County Raceway. Murray topped the $1,500 to win main event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds at the Colton and Connor Gentry Memorial Wild West Challenge. He’d led the first seven circuits before falling back to second for most of the race. After regaining the point from Eddie Belec on lap 21, Murray charged ahead to career win number 539. Already on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, he was chased to the checkers by Anthony Roth, Belec, Mike Densberger and Colton Osborn. Also punching tickets to the $1,000 winner’s circle were Jason Rogers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Lance Borgman in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. LaCrosse earns $10,000 for career second Clash at the Creek checkers

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 23) – Benji LaCrosse led every lap of the 50 lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified Clash at the Creek main event Thursday at 141 Speedway. LaCrosse held off heavy pressure from two-time defending race winner Mike Mullen to take home the $10,000 payday in the opening installment of the Cheesehead Triple Crown. LaCrosse earned the pole position for the feature by virtue of passing points during Wednesday qualifying. The 2013 Clash winner showed he was going to be a threat as he pulled away from the field immediately. Mullen settled into position in second and Kyle Brown into third, with a whole crew running right behind. Several cautions kept the field together like a close knit family. BRITT, Iowa (June 23) – The Hawkeye Dirt Tour returns to Britt and five IMCA divisions see on-track action at Hancock County Speedway’s Salute To Veterans special on Tuesday, June 28. Touring Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds race for $3,500 to win their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier while the runner-up earns $1,600. Fourteen hundred dollars will be paid for third, $1,200 for fourth and $1,000 for fifth. Hancock County is the only track to have hosted an HDT event every year since the series started in 2010.
