Lawson leads the way in Virginia Sprint Series feature at Natural Bridge

By Jim Haines NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (May 28) – Brian Lawson won for the first time this season when the Virginia Sprint Series made its second visit of 2016 to Natural Bridge Speedway. After recording his first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car tour heat win, J.D. Coats joined Bill Rice in pacing the Saturday evening field to the feature green. Rice took the early lead, riding his favorite high line. Daren Bolac was making ground up on Rice and on lap four he went to the front with Lawson close behind. Lawson got by Bolac for the top spot on lap nine and Jerald Harris got into the picture, running second at halfway. Meyer adds to Sport Compact lead in Park Jefferson standings 

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 29) – A quick evening of spectacular driving highlighted the Memorial Day weekend for IMCA race fans Sunday at Raceway Park. The first feature of the evening was in the KISS 107 IMCA Sport Compact division where point leader Ramsey Meyer took advantage of a mechanical glitch in the car of early leader Luke Jackson to move into the lead on the fifth lap. While Jake Newsom kept the pressure on to the checkers, Meyer held on for the win followed by Newsom and Tyler Thompson. The Car Quest Hobby Stock division ran its 14-lap feature clean from the drop of the green flag to the checkered. The early laps saw a fantastic side-by-side duel between Brody Spreng and Dave Riley, with Riley taking control of the lead coming out of the fourth turn on the ninth lap. Reeser captures PASS win at Williams Grove

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 27) – Tyler Reeser rebounded from early-season engine troubles and returned to victory lane at Williams Grove Speedway Friday night after holding off Colby Dice for the Pennsylvania Sprint Series win. Donnie Hendershot led the first lap before Reeser took over following a close race back to the line. Reeser had just seen Colby Dice drive into second when the red flag appeared on the fourth lap for a second-turn flip by Zach Newlin. Dice challenged Reeser briefly when action resumed but Reeser was up to the challenge, opening up a near straightaway advantage at points to pick up the win. Dice rode home second followed by Jaremi Hanson, Ken Duke and John Martin. John Barnett was the Wee Bee Audio and Video Hard Charger in the event, finishing eighth after starting 22nd in the feature. Hard charger Wauge pockets $1,500 for Haudenshild Tribute win

(May 28) – With a $1,500 top prize and a berth on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational on the line, Mark Wauge impressed with his charge to the front of the pack for the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory at Southern Oregon Speedway’s Roger Haudenshild Tribute Race. Wauge started in the last row in a 30-lapper that ran with just one caution flag and a complete restart. He took the lead from long tow Darrell Hughes II on lap 20.  Once in front, Wauge was not to be denied as he pulled away for the win. After a multi-car crash resulted in a complete restart, Brian Poppa shot into the lead on the open­ing lap. What proved to be the last caution of the contest flew on the next circuit. IMCA Dirt Wars starts Idaho Falls Raceway season 

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – The second annual Dirt Wars special this Saturday, June 4 starts the 2016 season at Idaho Falls Raceway. The Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature pays $1,500 to win and is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invita­tional ballot qualifying event while top prize in the IMCA SportMod feature is $750. All applicable IMCA points, including local track, will be awarded and RACEceivers are required in both divisions. Pit gates open at noon and the grandstand opens at 3 p.m. Outlaw karts take to the track at 5 p.m. with the evening program set for 7 p.m. There will be a monster truck freestyle event at intermission. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $10 for kids and free for three and under. Modified en­try fee is $50 and pit passes are $15. A practice session will be held Friday, June 3. Roberts repeats at Stuart’s Ron Little Memorial

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (May 29) – Nick Roberts flexed his muscles on the top side of the oval in racing to a second straight Ron Little Memorial Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win at Stuart Speedway. The Sunday checkers paid $2,000 and put Roberts on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invita­tional. Roberts and Racer Hulin led the field to green for the 30-lap main event. Roberts took control early with Hulin and then Darin Duffy close behind. Roberts, Duffy and Hulin held the top three spots until Todd Shute moved into third on lap 17. A lap later the yellow would fly but that proved to be the final caution. When the green light came on again it was Roberts making the most of the higher line. Logue is best in Boone Modified main

BOONE, Iowa (May 28) – Saturday night’s racing program at the Boone Speedway beat Mother Nature, its program finishing just before the rain. John Logue, who has seen many victories over the years, took the checkers in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified division. Wayne Gifford got his second win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car class, as did Randy Roberts in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. John Watson got the win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Logue jumped immediately to the lead from his outside front row starting spot in the Modified 20-lapper. He took his ride to the topside and kept his momentum there, leading all laps to the finish and the win. Rain, hail combine to KO Boone Deery 

BOONE, Iowa (May 30) – The combination of torrential rain and pea-sized hail was more than enough to result in cancellation of the Memorial Day Deery Brothers Summer Series event at Boone Speedway. Next up on the IMCA Late Model series schedule is the $2,000 to win, minimum $300 to start event at Marshalltown Speedway on Tuesday, June 7. The Hawkeye Dirt Tour for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds is also in town that evening and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars complete the midweek program. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m., the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. and hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Droste tops Tri-Track Challenge at Dubuque

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (May 29) – Dubuque Speedway hosted the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge on Sunday night with a season-high 88 race teams taking part in the extra special night of racing. Twenty-eight Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model drivers signed in looking to capture the $2,000 first place prize money. The 50-lap main provided the fans with plenty of excitement as the lead changed hands several times before young up and coming driver Tyler Droste was able to secure the top spot with 20 laps to go. Droste broke away from a pack of race lead contenders late in the race and scored the win ahead of Ray Guss Jr. while Johnny Emerson came on strong late in the race to take third. Hurst scores first of season at West Liberty 

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (May 28) – Jeremiah Hurst scored his first win of the season in the iWire­less IMCA Late Model division Saturday at West Liberty Raceway. Hurst inherited the lead when the no. 39 of Rob Toland developed an engine misfire. Hurst took the lead with less than five laps remaining. Kevin Kile made a late-race charge to finish second ahead of Jonathan Brauns. Larry Herring scored his second consecutive feature win in the Performance Concepts IMCA Modi­fied class. Herring took the top spot from Jerry Luloff on lap 10 and went on to score the 20-lap feature win over Bruce Hanford and Dakota Hayden.
