IMCA Stock Car 500 engine option won’t be claimable

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers running with the 500 cfm engine option will not be subject to engine claims, effective immediately for all sanctioned weekly, special and special series events during the 2016 calendar year. “Our executive committee has had an extensive amount of discussion as to the necessity of the engine claim with this particular engine option. Based on the specificity of the 500 cfm engine rules, costs have been reasonably contained,” explained IMCA President Brett Root. “The 500 cfm option has a tighter set of parameters than the 350 that address cost control.” “Since 2005 we have offered a non-claimable engine option in nearly every other IMCA division,” he added. “It makes sense to do this in the Stock Car division as well. With no crate engine option available, the 500 cfm carburetor option makes the most sense for us to make this decision in regard to.” “For this reason and the low occurrence of engine claims in the Stock Car division last year, it makes sense for us to [Read More]

Michelle Melton aces Ardmore Sprint Series of Oklahoma show

By David Smith Jr. ARDMORE, Okla. (May 20) – Michelle Melton made her first appearance at Southern Oklahoma Speedway a memorable one as the Flower Mound, Texas, driver took the lead at the start and never looked back to capture the Sprint Series of Oklahoma victory Friday in Ardmore. Melton and Jerry Hammock started on the front row for the 20-lap feature with Melton taking the lead as the green flag fell. Hammock gave chase throughout the feature and despite being nervous starting on the pole, Melton was up to the challenge. “I tend to psych myself out when I start on the pole plus I had people like John Carney behind me who has been dominating the 305 stuff and you sit and think about how you need to drive,” said Melton, who has been racing Sprint Cars for five years off and on due to school with 2016 being a full-time driver. Hammock and third-starting Carney were closing the gap midway. With five laps to go, the red flag waved for a Chad [Read More]

MANDAN, N.D. (May 20) – Jay Tooley led every lap in earning his career-first Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win Friday at Dacotah Speedway. On the restart, Dahl spun again, ending his night early. Corell again tried to complete the pass on Tooley while Marlyn Seidler and Jeremy Keller caught up to the front pair. By Rick Staley ATCHISON, Kan. (May 20) – Half a car length was the margin of victory for Alvie Christofferson in Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event at Atchison County Raceway. Christofferson and Keuhn swapped the lead back and forth in the closing laps with Christofferson picking up the feature win. Keuhn finished a close second with Josh Steele a solid third. Pepper prevails at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 21) – Michael Pepper wasted little time moving to the front in the 12-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature field to capture his second win of the year Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.
