Jenner dominates fair feature at Grays Harbor

By Ben Deatherage ELMA, Wash. (Aug. 3, 2024) – Grays Harbor Raceway hosted its annual fair race Saturday on the big 3/8-mile in Western Washington. A strong contingent of Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds was in attendance in front of the packed grandstands. Once the main event got underway, Don Martin sprinted into turn one in front of the rest of the field. Still, Robert Jenner caught him, overtook him on the back straightaway, and led the opening circuit. He tried to take off as best he could, but he dealt with seven cautions in the feature’s first half. Austin Rognlin powered his way to second on lap two. Behind him, Martin and Brenton Schnitzer went after it for third. Schnitzer managed to obtain fourth with an impressive pass on the inside of the final set of corners on the fourth trip past the flag stand. The battle for second was a thrilling one, with Schnitzer overtaking Rognlin shortly after a restart on lap 11.  As the race reached halfway, Rognlin found himself under intense pressure [Read More]

By Ben Deatherage UNDERWOOD, N.D. (Aug. 3, 2024) – Travis Hagen made like lightning twice, on night two of the Coal County Classic The McGregor motorist bolted to the front twice in the late stages of Saturday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event, first to take the lead and again to get it back. Hagen would then lead to the finish of the $1,500 to win feature at McLean County Speedway. Lap one of the feature saw Jason Grimes beat night one winner Steven Pfeifer for the early lead. Pfeifer became the new trailblazer when they hit the line. Shortly afterward, Hagen arrived on the scene to try to take second away. The position was exchanged no less than five times in six laps as Grimes and Hagen battled. Hagen, after securing second place, unleashed a burst of speed on a restart, making a daring crossover move on the front stretch to get ahead of Pfeifer. The race was far from over, however, with the yellow flag bringing a temporary halt to the action and [Read More]

Reierson in right direction with first IMCA Northern SportMod win

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 3, 2024) – Ben Reierson led every lap but the last one last week. He got the job done Saturday night at Arlington Raceway, beating Matt Looft to the finish line by all of 18 thousandths of a second for his career first Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature win. “I definitely replayed that in my mind a bunch. We were supposed to have that Stock Car special (rained out and rescheduled to this Wednesday) so I was trying to erase that from my memory and start fresh,” said Reierson, 22 and in his fourth full season in the class. “Then it came to Saturday, I was able to start second row and I got the lead on the second lap. I tried to stay as smooth and consistent as I could.” Unsure exactly where the scoring loop is, Reierson took the checkers at the end of the caution-free main event and looked to his right, seeing Looft running with him virtually side-by-side. “It was great to get this win. We’ve worked [Read More]

Eagle win is career first for Cook

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 3, 2024) – Score a career-first Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature win at Eagle Raceway for Lauren Cook. The third-year hotshoe out of Lincoln led the distance of the Saturday show, and while competition for third through fifth places behind her was hot and heavy, Cook was in control green to checkers. “It does help starting on the front row. The track was really slick in (turns) three and four and really good in one and two,” she said. “I could get the car to turn and hit some good moisture but I was a little slow in three and four because it was so slick. I felt like I was going really slow like somebody should have been passing me, but they didn’t”. McLain Reed, Josh Pfeifer, Cole Wayman and Adam Vrbka completed the top five on the Stumpy’s Custom Creations and A1 Iron-presented Conquer the High Banks program. Chad Andersen topped the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and Jason Danley took the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car checkers [Read More]

Congratulations keep coming following Domeier’s first IMCA Hobby Stock win

REDWOOD FALLS, Minn. (Aug. 4, 2024) – There was no shortage of encouragement to make the switch when Tyler Domeier was thinking about getting into an IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock. Just six starts into his career in the class, the congratulations started coming in following his first feature win. Domeier won the Sunday night main event at Redwood Speedway, wheeling a 2008 Terminator to the checkers ahead of Tayte Harazin and Cory Probst. “I started on a really fast line. I started front row outside so I started on the preferred line. I just stuck to that line and I just needed to race clean,” the hometown speedster said. “I knew if I could keep it straight and clean I’d probably be fast enough to hold off Harazin and Probst on the restart. That definitely made me a bit nervous.” The one caution came in the 15-lapper came when contact got Domeier’s brother Joey sideways – with maybe five circuits left. Domeier was leading by five car lengths at the time. The restart didn’t become [Read More]

LAKE CITY, Iowa (Aug. 3, 2024) – The track that’s already been the scene for so much of Mike Smith’s success saw him in victory lane again Saturday night. Smith raced to the 100th win of his IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock career at Boone Speedway, becoming at 20 the youngest driver to reach that milestone number. He also joined his father David, now knocking on the door of 200 career IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature wins, and uncles Dustin, Devin, Donavon and Doug in the IMCA Century Win Club. “I wanted to be in that club. Pfeifer, Deschamp, Medler, Heaton are night one Coal County Classic winners

By Ben Deatherage UNDERWOOD, N.D. (Aug. 2, 2024) – McLean County Speedway hosted its final race weekend of 2024 with Steven Pfeifer, Gabriel Deschamp, Darren Medler and Taylor Heaton earning IMCA feature wins. Dalton Flory was the early leader in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified ranks. Travis Hagen caught Flory and challenged on the bottom but couldn’t make it work so he transitioned to the top shelf. While that occurred, Pfeifer came into the fray to make it a three-car battle for the lead. Flory did his best to keep them all in check, but Pfeifer successfully obtained first place on lap six with Hagen motoring his way into second. Drew Christianson went into third and tried to challenge Hagen for the runner-up around lap 10.  The yellow came out one last time with 13 laps complete, setting up a dozen laps left to cover. As the lap count got worked on, Hagen did his best to track down Pfeifer, but the leader did an excellent job staying ahead. Pfeifer kept Hagen in check for [Read More]
