Horton is first in Eagle Sprint feature

By Greg Soukup  EAGLE, Neb. (July 2, 2022) – Brandon Horton was first to the checkers when a change in the running order had IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars take to the high banks for the first main event of the evening Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Horton passed Jason Danley for the lead on a lap five restart. Mike Boston got past Danley for second with eight circuits remaining but couldn’t close the gap on the leader. “In eight or nine years now, I think we’ve finished in every single spot in the feature except winning it, so this feels really good, finally,” said Horton. “I liked the track tonight. I think running the Sprint Cars first kind of set in a nice groove that everyone else ran as the night went on. It ended being nice and smooth with a nice cushion to run on and it was pretty fast.”  Jordan Grabouski was back in victory lane following the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature, Shane Stutzman led from lap six to the end of the [Read More]

The flagman is a winner as Kelly tops Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts at Britt

BRITT, Iowa (July 1, 2022) – Long-time flagman and part-time Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact driver Logan Kelly gave young son Hendrick something different to talk about. Kelly went to the high line after racing his way back to the front of the field at Hancock County Speedway en route to his IMCA career first feature win on July 1. “We were just plain fast and for once in my life I didn’t make any mistakes in the race car. That was the big thing. It was a confidence building night,” said Kelly, from Fairmont, Minn., and also a first-time heat race winner Friday night. “Hendrick was pretty excited to see the trophy when he got up the next morning.”  “We’d broken an axle our first week at Britt and he’s been telling people ‘Daddy drove off the track.’ Hopefully we can get him talking about how dad brought home a trophy.”  The site of Kelly’s first win was also special. “It was neat to win here. My dad Jim never raced but he helped other [Read More]

Block provides IMCA Modified fireworks at Outagamie

By Joe Orsini SEYMOUR, Wis. (July 1, 2022) – The Fourth of July weekend kicked off with 180 cars filling the pits at Outagamie Speedway. Each of the drivers wanted to avoid fireworks on the track and enjoy them from victory lane after the races. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature kicked off with Jason Hyerdall and then Dan Roedl in front.  Wyatt Block wasted no time moving into position to challenge as he moved inside Hyerdall to secure second. Block continued to work the groove inside Roedl and fought side-by-side with the leader for multiple laps as Mike Mullen steadily worked the high side into fourth place. At halfway, Roedl led Block, Cody Schroeder, and Mike Mullen.  A lap 12 restart saw Block slice past Roedl into the top spot and try to open a gap on the field.  The closing laps saw Mullen put on a clinic on running the high side in turns one and two as he tickled the wall up top with every lap. When the checkers flew Mullen closed [Read More]

BOONE, Iowa (July 1, 2022) – Race of champions events for Hobby Stocks and Northern SportMods move to the Tuesday night program during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway. Former Super Nationals, national and regional champions and former race winners, as well as 2022 track champions or points leaders will be eligible to qualify for their respective race of champions event on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 5.  The Stephenville Starter Race of Champions for Hobby Stocks and BSB Manufacturing Race of Champions for Northern SportMods will be Tuesday, Sept. 6.  Both race of champions events had been part of Saturday programs since their addition to the Super Nationals schedule in 2009. “Every year there are drivers who qualify for the race of champions but not their main event. That forces them to stay four days or make two long trips to run 12 laps,” explained IMCA President Brett Root. “Moving qualifying and the two races of champions to Tuesday makes more sense, especially with fuel costs at a record [Read More]

Arlington Stock Car checkers fly for Lund

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 25, 2022) – Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Arlington Raceway saw a new car in victory lane but not without a battle first. Andrea McCain led the first seven laps before getting too high following a restart and seeing Curt Lund take over the top spot. Tim Malchow started ninth and worked his way to second but couldn’t get around Lund as the cars behind him were all vying for the top spot, too, with three- and four-wide racing.  In the end Lund won the race, Malchow took second and Chad Schroeder took third. Cory Probst again pulled off the feature win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature, which was tainted with a late race crashes on laps nine and 10. Chad Volk took second over Moriah Trebelhorn and Todd Sievert. There were three different leaders in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. David Marshall led the first two laps, then Alan Lahr took over the top spot until lap nine when Nate Coopman got around him. R.J. Esqueda [Read More]
