200th win is latest IMCA Hobby Stock accomplishment for Probst at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 18, 2022) – After thinking back to the time when he could hardly win a single race, Cory Probst talked about what it took for him to win 200 of them.  Probst earned the 200th feature win of his IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Car career on Saturday at Arlington Raceway. The checkers were his eighth in 15 starts this season and already his sixth of 2022 at the big Sibley County Fairgrounds speedplant. “It was pretty special. I was surprised when I got my 100th win, let alone my 200th,” said the Brewster, Minn., driver, who celebrated with his family afterwards with dinner at Applebee’s. “I can remember when I started racing and it was hard to get one win.”  “I’ve learned that experience and a good car maintenance program are keys to getting wins,” he continued. “I think racing two or three times a week and racing at different tracks makes you a better driver than racing once a week at the same track. The more you race, there’s always something new you [Read More]

Night two of IMCA Wild West Shootout sees James, Roberts, Pearce hit Coos Bay paydirt

by Ben Deatherage COOS BAY, Ore. (June 20, 2022) – Round two of the 2022 IMCA Wild West Shootout fired off on Monday and Coos Bay Speedway was once again the track to host the action. The same three Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing divisions were in attendance from the previous evening. They included the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods.  Despite several cautions, the IMCA Modified main event was a barnburner. The 35-lap race started with Collen Winebarger beating out Grey Ferrando for the point. Winebarger was passed at the line on lap two but stayed near Ferrando and kept the pressure up.  Grey would feel some heat from both Winebarger and Jesse Williamson. Williamson would get around the both of them on lap nine and become the new leader. A long green-flag run developed, which allowed Winebarger to track down Williamson and overtake him on the nineteenth circuit.  The two would have a heated battle in which both of them, unfortunately, got tangled together on [Read More]

by Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 17, 2022) – The action on track Friday night at Lee County Speedway was just as hot as the temperatures as the speedway hosted round three of the Drive for 5 for IMCA Sunoco Late Models and Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, and the Drive for 3 for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. The first feature to take to the track was the 15-lap Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature, with Josh Barnes taking the lead late to drive to his second win in a row. Brandon Reu, Chandler Fullenkamp, Kimberly Abbott and Luke Fraise completed the top five. Up next was the 18-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature, with Chris Wibbell and Josh Foster making up the front row after Peter Stodgel elected to go to the rear. Williamson, Berkeley, Peery open up IMCA Wild West Shootout with Coos Bay wins

by Ben Deatherage COOS BAY, Ore. (June 19, 2022) – The 2022 IMCA Wild West Shootout finally kicked off on Sunday after two nights of getting washed away. Coos Bay Speedway had the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods in the house. Sixty-nine entries were on hand among the three Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing program divisions representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California and Nevada, as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.  Otis teenager Eston Whisler started the thirty-five-lap IMCA Modified main event with the race lead. However, Corbett’s Collen Winebarger would overtake him the following lap. Winebarger, racing for car owner Jimmy Schram, would receive some pressure shortly after a lap five restart.  Collen battled with Brad Martin with Martin obtaining the top spot on the eighth circuit. From there, an extremely long green flag run developed with no stoppages for 25 laps. With the lack of cautions, it brought lapped traffic into the picture.  Jesse Williamson would track down Martin, and the [Read More]

Morgan gets NY-Penn Series redemption at Bloomsburg

by Evan Canfield BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (June 19, 2022) – In the racing world, most drivers have that one big race that got away. For NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series driver Rodney Morgan, that race was Bloomsburg Fair Raceway in 2021. After leading much of that event, invader David Stremme slipped by Morgan late to take the win. Coming back to Bloomsburg on June 19th, Morgan was determined to get back the one he missed out on a year ago. Series points leader Keith Jack Lamphere set the pace for the beginning of the 25 lap feature, with Ray McClure starting to his outside. Once the green flag waved, Lamphere took the race lead. McClure faded back as Rodney Morgan slid up to second, bringing David Stremme and Brad Sites along with him.  The caution waved on lap four as Shawn Bruce found the turn one wall. That set up a restart with Lamphere in the top spot followed by Morgan, then Stremme and Sites. Morgan got the advantage on Lamphere on the restart, taking the lead away [Read More]

Olson drives borrowed car to victory at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (June 19, 2022) – One driver didn’t think he’d be able to race while another wasn’t sure he’d even make it to the track. Both ended up in victory lane in an unlikely turn of events Sunday at Benton County Speedway. After suffering extensive damage to his own ride Saturday night, Kyle Olson wasn’t planning on racing Sunday. That all changed when Brandon Tharp asked him to drive his car. Tharp, who underwent an emergency appendectomy early Sunday morning and was sidelined for the evening, offered his ride to Olson for Sunday’s racing program at The Bullring. By night’s end, both drivers were posing for victory lane photos after Olson raced Tharp’s #B21 to the winner’s circle in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. From his third row start, Olson made his way into the top three by the time caution slowed action a handful of laps into the 15-lapper. He worked around the outside of Justin Wacha a short time after racing resumed to secure the lead. Olson maintained the top spot [Read More]

Kenawell Makes it a Double Weekend with Hagerstown win

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (June 18, 2022) – Stevie Kenawell stared the weekend winning with the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series at Dog Hollow Speedway and then followed it up at the Annual Dad’s Night Out weekend at Hagerstown Speedway by wiring the feature from pole to checkers.  The Hagerstown event has been a highlight since the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series, PASS and Virginia Sprint Series got together at Hagerstown a few years ago for the once a year three series race.  Kenawell and Dylan Shatzer paced the feature field to green and Kenawell took off with Shatzer in tow. The whole field was dicing for positions in all grooves behind them. Quickly it became a race for second as Kenawell really had the family-owned sprinter dialed in, just a straight arrow lap after lap as Austin Reed made his way to second with Shatzer still third.  Even as racers made huge gains headed toward the front spots, the race lap after lap was Kenawell’s in hand. After a couple re-starts he just stayed in the zone to keep [Read More]
