Ventura County Fair race is Wednesday

VENTURA, Calif. – IMCA Modifieds are on the Wednesday night program at the Ventura County Fair, racing for $800 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Race Cars Western Region, California State and track points will be awarded at the Aug. 1 show at Ventura Raceway. Modified teams are asked to arrive as close to 9:30 a.m. as possible to line up along the street to get the best possible spots as they are given on a first come, first serve basis. Drivers will be allowed to pit with their rigs as long as space is available; anyone lining up earlier than 9:30 a.m. will be turned away. Pit passes are $40 for members and $50 for non-members, with a car entry of $20. Crew members must also purchase a pit pass. Ruter, Zevenbergen race to 2K wins on Kossuth County’s Veterans’ Night

ALGONA, Iowa (July 26) – The crowd at Kossuth County Speedway thanked the men and women who have served in our military, then applauded $2,000 feature winners Ryan Ruter and Elijah Zevenbergen during the Thursday Veterans’ Night event. Ruter was running third and in the right place to capitalize when Kyle Strickler and Jeremy Mills tangled up front in the IMCA Modified main. He led to the finish, running the top line and taking the checkers ahead of Wehrs Dash at the Clash winner Kelly Shryock, Ethan Dotson, Rob Hughes and Nick Meyer. First round of voting yields seven first-time All-Star candidates

BOONE, Iowa – Seven of the first 15 drivers elected to the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational will make career-first starts when the event hits the track Friday, Sept. 7 at Boone Speedway. First-time All-Stars are Troy Foulger, Chaz Baca, Zachary Madrid, Shane Hiatt, Tyler Frye, Chris Elliott and Austin Wonch. Steven Bowers Jr. was elected to his second All-Star race, Will Ward to his third and Hunter Marriott and Kevin Sustaire both to their fourth. Richie Gustin and A.J. Ward are both in for the fifth time, Ricky Thornton Jr. and William Gould both for the sixth. Thornton, who became a new father earlier this week, had the top vote total among the 139 drivers on the first-round ballot. Edelbrock backs claim engine drivers in five IMCA divisions

TORRANCE, Calif. – Edelbrock rewards the accomplishments of IMCA drivers competing with claim engines for a 21st consecutive season. The Torrance, Calif., company gives product and product certificate awards to IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod drivers. Highest finishing claim drivers in point standings for each of the five Modified regions again receive 2975 Victor Jr. intakes while top drivers in the two Stock Car regions receive Edelbrock 2701, 7121 or 2176 intakes. The highest finishing claim engine drivers in both Hobby Stock regions and in national Northern SportMod and Southern SportMod points have a choice between 2701, 7121 or 2176 intakes. Ryan ‘finally’ scores Maquoketa fair win

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 26) – “Yeah!” That shout rang out and probably could be heard over the carnival rides behind the grandstand and the cheers of the appreciative crowd occupying the grandstand and bleacher seats. The exclamation came from Matt Ryan as he pulled off the racing gloves and other driver safety equipment, then he climbed from his Andover Meat IMCA Late Model following the 25-lap win during the Jackson County Fair at Maquoketa Speedway. A win during fair week is special. “I tried a long time,” the Davenport ace and 2017 track champion said in victory lane. “Last year I led this whole race and then Justin Kay passed me on the last lap. RIVERSIDE, N.J. – Twice as many IMCA drivers are in line for post-season awards from RH2 when 2018 point standings become official. Marriott makes it two wins in three nights with BVR Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights checkers

ALTA, Iowa (July 25) – Wednesday’s night’s Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour rubber match went to Hunter Marriott. Marriott led every lap from the pole in winning the IMCA Modified main event at Buena Vista Raceway. The $2,000 tour victory was his second in three days, the first coming Monday at Park Jefferson Speedway.
