Toland, Dominacki, Blum take IMCA wins at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 29) – The first race night of summer at the Davenport Speedway was an interesting one.  Adding to the excitement was a partial loss of power, two-thirds of the way through the racing program. The Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature went green, white, checkered again. Rob Toland collected his second win of the season in the division. Toland got out front early and held the lead the rest of the way to the checkers. A dandy three-way battle for second went to Chuck Hanna, with Matt Ryan taking third. Bob Dominacki took home the trophy in the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature. The win was Dominacki’s first point victory at Davenport since 2014. He took the lead after a lap 15 restart and had to hold off Toland and Mitch Morris down the stretch for the win. Morris ended up second with Toland third. The Hawkeye Auto IMCA Northern SportMod feature saw Keith Blum take win number three of the season. Mike Haines and Doug Burkhead [Read More]

Newlin scores emotional Port Royal PASS victory

PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 30) – Zach Newlin picked up his first-ever Pennsylvania Sprint Series win Saturday at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night. Along with being a huge win for the entire team it was a fulfillment of a promise as Newlin dedicated his biggest win to William Sweger, who passed away July 15, 2017, at the young age of 12 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Newlin later said he was “damn near crying” for the final three laps of the make-up event from May 5. Newlin had started on the pole and may have breathed a sigh of relief when perennial favorite Jeff Miller got caught up in a early tangle with Dave Grube. Jonathon Jones started third and pulled ahead as the front pair ran side-by-side for the lead. Newlin eventually shot into the lead and never looked back. Jones held on for second followed by Dylan Shatzer, Nick Sweigart and Drew Ritchey. Feature results – 1. Zach Newlin; 2. Jonathon Jones; 3. Dylan Shatzer; 4. Nick Sweigart; 5. Drew Ritchey; 6. Worrell sees fireworks early at Langley Speedway

By Jim Haines HAMPTON, Va. (June 30) – The annual July 4th holiday visit to Langley Speedway was early this year and after 30 fast laps, Glenn Worrell saw the fireworks in the form of a checkered flag first. Bill Rice and Worrell paced the field to green with Rice out first as Worrell stayed close; on lap two, Worrell drove hard into turn one and to the front. Tony Harris and Mike Leraas were quickly all over Rice for second, using the high line in their bid to get by. By lap four, Harris and Leraas went by Rice and the top three were soon together and going at it hard lap after lap. Worrell kept his car smooth as Harris was going low or high every lap to get an opening while keeping Leraas in third as well. Mike Keeton battled Rice for fourth as the top three were not letting up. Traffic was coming up as the white flag waved, giving the chase cars one last shot at Worrell but he did not [Read More]

Sabin takes first career win at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 29) – Kolby Sabin won for the first time in his Mach-1 Sport Compact career Friday at Stuart Speedway. Sabin and Mitchell Bunch led the field to green. Sabin led the first two laps with Bunch pulling ahead for the next two circuits. Hunter Patrick threw his hat in the ring to lead lap five, but it was Curtis Miller making it four wide and taking over the top spot for laps six and seven. After falling as far back as fourth, Sabin shot from third to the lead on lap eight as he and Miller spent the rest of the race door to door for the win. Miller worked the high side hard, but each time it was Sabin at the stripe by a bumper and sometimes less than that. Coming out of turn four on the last lap it was anyone’s race with Miller up high and Sabin in the middle of the track. Ultimately it was Sabin taking the win by about a foot at the [Read More]

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (June 29) – Night number seven of the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout belonged to Bricen James. The Albany speedster gained the lead near midway and led to the $1,000 checkers Friday at Willamette Speedway, earning his tour career first victory and a berth on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Rob Mayea made his first start with the series and got to the front on the initial green. Mayea was mighty fast while leading but unfortunately got caught up with a lapped car on the 13th circuit. Although Mayea retained the lead due to not stopping, his car was sustained enough damage to take him out of contention for the victory. On the restart, James blazed past Mayea and officially took over first place on lap 14. James tried to separate from the rest of the field but a handful of contenders gave chase. The race started intensified as lapped traffic came into the picture in the last laps. James kept all challengers in check to become the sixth [Read More]
