Martin tops opening night Sprint Nationals qualifier

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Sept. 1) – Jason Martin continued his Eagle Raceway tear on opening night of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals. The winner of the last two regular season features at Eagle, Martin topped the Friday qualifying feature, earning $700 and the pole position in Sunday’s $2,500 to win main event. “I think our chances Sunday are as good as any. You’ve got to lose it a few times in order to win it, I guess, so I think we’re as good as we can be right now,” said Martin, who ran third in last year’s Sprint Nationals main after winning the Jake Ita Memorial feature. Chasing Martin across the stripe and lining up behind him on the inside row Sunday were 2015 champion John Carney II, two-time and defending champion Jack Dover, Toby Chapman, Matt Richards, Mike Bos­ton, Tyler Drueke, Stu Snyder and Kevin Ramey qualified for the big dance. Abelson takes IMCA Modified win at MoTown Showdown 

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 1) – Chris Abelson reeled in a flying Josh Gilman en route to the $1,000 IMCA Modified win at Marshalltown Speedway’s Friday night Showdown at MoTown. Abelson took charge jut after halfway in the 25-lapper and pulled away. The race was halted on lap 23 after Canadian driver Kody Schlopp took a tumble off of turn four.  When the race went back to green for the final two circuits, Abelson again drove away from the competition. Already on the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, he finished well ahead of second place Clint Luellen. Third went to 18th starting Joel Rust, Kelly Shryock came from 17th starting to finish fourth and Tim Ward completed the top five. Damon Murty passed Jeff Mueller to regain the lead on the final turn to win the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Mueller had to be content with second and third went to Todd Reitzler. Yankee opening night is in the books

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (Aug. 31) – The 40th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic got underway on Thursday with qualifying in both the IMCA Modified and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions. Both divisions qualified 12 cars for their big Saturday night Yankee championship features.  A dozen more cars in each division will earn a starting spot through last-chance races early Saturday. Friday racing will start at 6:30 p.m. and features Deery Brothers Summer Series IMCA Late Models and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Saturday’s start time has been moved up to 5:30 p.m. and will kick off with last-chance races, followed by opening ceremonies and all big features, including the 100-lap, $10,000 to win Yankee Dirt Track Classic for the Deery Series, which is expected to take to the track at 9 p.m. Modified Qualifiers 1st heat – 1. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals qualifying starts tonight at Eagle 

EAGLE, Neb. – Teams from across the country have traveled to America’s Home Track for this weekend’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals. Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2 qualify­ing features at Eagle Raceway pay $700 to win while Saturday’s Jake Ita Memo­rial pays $1,000 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. The Sunday, Sept. 3 main event pays $2,500 to win and a minimum $1,250 to start. Twenty-seven IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars will start the big show on Sunday. The “B” feature purse spon­sored by IMCATV is $1,000 for the first non-qualifier (10th place fin­isher) and $500 to start. All other non-qualifiers re­ceive a minimum of $250 for Sunday with added non-qualifier sponsorship money. Non-qualifi­ers are guaranteed at least $450 for the entire weekend as long as they take a green flag each night. Adult grandstand admission is $13 on Friday, $15 on Satur­day and $18 on Sunday. Super Nationals pre-registration deadline is noon on Friday, Sept. 1 

BOONE, Iowa – Pre-registration deadline for the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nation­als fueled by Casey’s will be at noon CST on Friday, Sept. 1. “Drivers in all divisions racing at Super Nationals can call the home office (319 472-2201) to regis­ter early and save $20. Modified, Stock Car, Hobby Stock and Northern SportMod drivers also make themselves eligible to race in the Sept. 2 Prelude at Boone Speedway,” said IMCA Presi­dent Brett Root. “I encourage all drivers who are planning to race at Super Nationals to pre-regis­ter if they have not done so already.” More than 700 early entries are now in hand for the Sept. 4-9 Super Nationals. The updated list of pre-entries will be posted on the IMCA website prior to the event.

Deery drivers chase $10,000 paycheck at Farley’s Yankee Dirt Track Classic

FARLEY, Iowa – The top paycheck of the Deery Brothers Summer Series is on the line this weekend, as touring IMCA Late Models headline the 40th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic at Farley Speedway. The Saturday, Sept. 2 100-lap main event pays $10,000 to win and a minimum of $600 to make the 24-car starting field. 40th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic goes green at Farley

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa – Farley Speedway is set to host the 40th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic this week. The milestone event will be a tribute to Yankee founder Al Frieden. The late-season event was started in 1978 under the direction of race promoter and visionary extraordinaire Frieden. The event has continued to grow and is held annually at Farley Speedway, which was owned and oper­ated by Frieden from 1989 to 2000. The three-day racing event gets underway on Aug. 31 with Open Wheel Thursday, featuring qualifying racing for the IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and a full race program for the INEX Legend Cars. BOONE, Iowa – Nearly 40 vendors will be represented on Manufacturers’ Row during the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. IMCA sponsors will offer a wide range of high performance products for use during the week of Sept. 4-9. They’ll also display a variety of new products being introduced and legal for use in IMCA competition in 2018.
