Sprint Series of Oklahoma set for Friday show at Red Dirt Raceway

By David Smith Jr. MEEKER, Okla. – The Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Series presented by Smiley’s Racing Products will be back in action Friday, May 5 as the tour makes the first of two appearances of the season at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker. This event will be race three on the 2017 SSO schedule with Joe Wood Jr. of Oklahoma City picking up the victory this past Friday night in Wichita Falls, Texas, while Texan Chad Koch picked up the season-opening victory at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in late March. The SSO visited the quarter-mile red-clay oval in Meeker last year with Jake Martens and Andy Shouse picking up victories. Shouse’s lone SSO victory last year helped propel him to the inaugural series championship, as well as the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car national crown. Sunset Speedway Park opens Saturday with Ladies’ Night

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. – IMCA Modifieds are on the card when Sunset Speedway Park opens for the season on Saturday, May 6. The first round of IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing action will be Lime-A-Rita Ladies’ Night where all ladies 18 years or older get into the races for $5. “The weather hasn’t been the kindest to us this year,” commented Nikki Gamell, Sunset manager. “We’re very excited to finally get some racing in. We also want to invite all those lovely ladies out there to come out and have some fun.” Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and the front gate opens at 4 p.m. Racing kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $13 for adults, seniors, military and juniors ages 13-17 are $10, youth ages 6-12 are $5 and children five and under are free. Fifth annual IMCA Modified Stampede is Saturday at Dodge City

While the IMCA Modifieds battle it out for a $1,200 winner’s share in their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier, championship chase action continues as well for the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. High line takes Tony Harris to Shenandoah checkers

(April 29) – Tony Harris used the high line to save his tires and become the third different winner in as many Virginia Sprint Series events this season Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. Bill Rice and Tony Harris paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to the feature green flag and it was on with Rice out first. Harris quickly moved to the top and by the finish of lap one he was leading. Anthony Linkenhoker and Jerald Harris quickly made it to Tony’s rear bumper and they went at it all race with Tony using the high line to keep up speed. Jerald Harris made it by for second but all he could do was shadow Tony all the way to the finish. Next up for the Virginia Sprint Series is the Saturday, May 6 visit to Natural Bridge Speedway. Wood finds spark for Sprint Series of Oklahoma win at Wichita

By David Smith Jr. WICHITA FALLS, Texas (April 28) – Joe Wood Jr. held off a late race charge from Jake Martens to claim his first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Series of Oklahoma feature of the season Friday at Wichita Speedway. Chris Kelly and Wood started on the front row for the 20-lap feature with Wood taking the lead as the green flag fell. The race quickly went red when Brandon Long went for an easy tip over in turns three and four yet he would be able to restart at the tail of the field. Lee County paying $1,000 to May 4 winners in IMCA Modifieds, Stocks, Northern SportMods

DONNELLSON, Iowa – Checks for $1,000 go to feature winners in three IMCA divisions at Lee County Speedway’s Thursday, May 4 special. IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main events all pay $1,000 to win while the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature pays $300 to win. The evening’s Modified headliner is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. IMCA clarifies Modified, Late Model rear end weight rules

VINTON, Iowa – Weight rules for both IMCA Modified and IMCA Late Model divisions are not to be taken lightly. Rear end rules for the two divisions were clarified for the 2017 race season. The Modified rule specifies that a standard weight steel axle tube is allowed, the Late Model rule that standard weight aluminum or steel axle tubes only can be used in sanctioned competition. “This is a performance issue and one that is important for maintaining fairness,” noted IMCA President Brett Root. “By no means do we believe the disqualification of the defending champion at the Independence Deery Series event was a result of intentional cheating of this rule, but it must be enforced regardless of who the driver is or their previous success.
